Religious parties denounce law protecting women from abuse as 'un-Islamic'

It's non Islamic, impractical and non social law.
Don't suite our society and values.
By making crazy laws you cannot control home violence. It's personal matter of families which no one will like to discuss in Police stations or in media.
Educate your people and teach them manners. Make people learn that respecting each other is the best way to control domestic violence......... this will give results. Not such "laws" made by higher elite who lack proper understanding of internal issues of middle and low class families, can resolve problem. It cannot be applied, so it will create more severe issues.........

The intellect of the scholars is really alarming. No wonder we have a bunch of ignorants who are ready to suicide bomb others in search of jannah. Because of these scholars the terrorists seem to think that they are doing the right thing. Because they are never denounced. Islam doesn't allow any kind of violence towards one's wife. Although I agree the punishment in this bill is not suitable for our society. Instead a reported person should be taken into rehab and if persists should see jail term.

The Quran says:
“and live with them honourably. If you dislike them, it may be that you dislike a thing and Allaah brings through it a great deal of good”

[al-Nisa’ 4:19]

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The best of you are those who are the best to their wives, and I am the best of you to my wives.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 3895; Ibn Maajah, 1977; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.

And he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Fear Allaah with regard to women, for you have taken them as a trust from Allaah...........................................................Narrated by Muslim, 1218

Allaah says:

“As to those women on whose part you see ill‑conduct, admonish them (first), (next) refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly, if it is useful); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them means (of annoyance). Surely, Allaah is Ever Most High, Most Great”

Ata’ said: I said to Ibn ‘Abbaas, what is the kind of hitting that is not harsh? He said, Hitting with a siwaak and the like. [A siwaak is a small stick or twig used for cleaning the teeth]

I agree. I am not against the law.

Obviously, this can be used by women if they decide enough is enough, I am done with this moron and now he needs to pay for his deeds.

But the question remains what percentage of women undergoing domestic violence are actually able to make such strong decision? I think percentage will be very low, given our culture.

So what I am trying to say is that, this law won't change anything for most women experiencing domestic violence and hence will end up being a good but useless piece of legislation.

For example: There is a law in Pakistan which requires a husband to seek permission before second marriage. Like the law under-discussion it has become a good but useless law since most men threaten first wife with divorce. Most women make the compromise.

If we wish to make things better for most women we need to change social attitude towards divorced and unmarried women. This will require involvement from religious centers, educational institutions and parents(during upbringing).

As for other women. I did not discuss those because I think majority of cases of domestic violence are in husband-wife relation. But without doubt sisters, mother and daughters also experience domestic violence, but again social attitude will prevent use of this law in most cases, except may be in case mother. Most Pakistani men irrespective of their male ego are okay with getting a beating from their mother :P

But atleast there is a Law. Without a Law it can't be controlled. And no, Second Marriage Law did kept everything in check for the men. And we have seen multiple cases for such thing. The only problem is Pakistani court system is a mess, and property and marriage related problems keep dragging without any reason. I really hate that part, Government should do something for this as well.

Well, i have seen even Son try to beat their Mother. Especially in rural areas mostly due to drugs. So no, in Pakistan mothers should also be given respect and authority by the Law.

Law should be there, no body is using it is another thing. Society should through all pathetic practices. And it is Government job is to improve society through controls, education system, and advertisement. This law do cover "Control" part.
