Religion and caste in Indian Army

It means then there is clear bias or disparity as to proportion of religion in IA ...The reasons for which may vary..Though its not my concern but just an observation as i doubted recruitment on the basis of religion in IA

Thats your view & you are entitled to it.

There is no disparity or bias , soldiers of all religions, regions & caste are enrolled.

Yes but can you share data w.r.t population and there representation in Army ? Sikh accounts more or less 2% as Indian population and Muslims amount to approx. 14/15 % but have never seen this represented in Army..

Because they get the special reservation. Dalits and other backward classes.
:DThese desperate pdf'ers.

:enjoy:Probably because those who consider themselves non-pdf'ers as in some indian posters, are desperate to dismiss something still widely practiced in Indian society i.e. caste discrimination, and it reflects in IA too due to the same social practices having their effects and also due to still lingering colonial legacy of caste segregation and composition in its largest armed institution:

(Note:Following is just a brief related to subject matter only. For full information refer to websites: defenceindia.com, Wikipedia, Globalsecurity about current Indian Army Regiments composition)

War Cry:
Veer Bhogya Vasundhara (वीर भोग्य वसुंधरा )

"The Brave Shall Inherit the Earth"
Raja Ramchandra Ki Jai "Hail Lord Raja Ramachandra"
The name Rajputana Rifles is derived from the Rajput a historic Hindu clan and the word Rajputana which was the old name of Rajasthan. It is based on the Sanskrit word Rajaputra meaning son of a king. Rajputana(räj'pʊtä'nə) is a historic region in NW India, roughly coextensive with the modern Indian state of Rajasthan. The name means "land of the Rajputs."

Nearly, 80% of the Rajputana Rifles Regiment strength is of Rajputs and Jats . Other's recruited are Ahir, Sikh, Gurjar and Muslims.

Another example, of the President’s bodyguard, would further highlight the gross injustice to those left out in the name of some recruitment policy. In the regiment of President’s Bodyguards, only Hindu Rajputs, Hindu Jats and Jat Sikhs could be enrolled.

Ah I remember you now. You were the one who claimed army was cast based. Nobody said there is no caste discrimination but not much evident in the army ranks.

The president's bodyguard is a ceremonial part (In relation to their history). They are not given any special status.

@Joe Shearer This guy again.

Hindusim & Indian Army go hand in hand. Look into these war cries

Rajput Regiment : "Bol Bajrang Bali Ki jai"

Rajputana Rifles: "Raja Ramachandra ki jai"

Gurkha Rifles: "Jai Ma Kali, ayo Gorkhali"

Kumaon Regiment: "Kalika Mata ki jai"

And many others

Yup colonel. You are saying BS. Like your countrymen. Who would believe in it.

Colonel is BSing. Fake story.
Well firstly, its the Colonel's words against those who know the need for propagating such stuff is self explanatory.

Secondly, does this mean that only upper caste officers such as the good Colonel, tell the truth and lower caste soldiers who speak up against caste discrimination in Indian Army are all liers???

Thirdly, I'd love to believe the word of the colonel as the truth and not just an anomily as it sounds like such an extra ordinary story and so unique that it needs to be spead around and propagated to the rest of India to learn from it and apply as the good Colonel himself is suggesting so - self explanatory, ain't it?

The logic is simple. If there is a civil war the upper caste Indian army won't hestitate to shoot lower castes and Muslims.
