SSGC sends relief goods

KARACHI, Oct 9 (APP)- Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has handed over a consignment of relief goods to the District Coordination Officer (DCO) Abbottabad for the earthquake victims. According to a press release of SSGC issued here Sunday, the goods were handed over on Saturday to help victims of the earthquake in Northern areas of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir. The employees of SSGC have also voluntarily donated one day's salary in "President's Relief Fund for Victims of Earthquake-2005," amounting to Rs 5 million. SSGC has launched a major initiative under its "Corporate Social Responsibility" programme, and set up "Earthquake Relief Centers" in the company's Head Office, Regional and Zonal Offices and all Customer Facilitation Centres (CFC) in Sindh and Balochistan.

The second consignment of relief goods dispatched on Sunday night by SSGC through PIA Cargo Service, containing more than 15,000 kilogram edible items. The relief goods worth Rs 205 million included dates, sugar, dried milk, ghee, lentils, rice in addition to tea,salt and biscuits packs. The consignment also includes 100 water proof Tents with Darries, Blankets, and water proof mats. The SSGC Relief Centers are accepting donations in the form of beddings, clothes, food supplies and other essential house-hold items. The Company will arrange shipment of the goods collected and also send the cash for distribution in the worst affected areas.

Oxfam to provide tents and blankets to Earthquake victims in Azad Kashmir

LONDON Oct 9(APP) The biggest charity in the United Kingdom, Oxfam will provide sixty thousand tents and three hundred thousand blankets to victims of the earthquake in three of the five worst hit districts in Azad Kashmir, said its spokesman here on Sunday. Talking to APP Oxfam spokesman said here its Emergency Response team led by Raphal Sindaye will fly out to Pakistan on Monday and will buy the relief goods from the region to provide succour to the earthquake's victims which killed over 19000 people while injuring over forty two thousand people.

He said its team had the target of providing relief to three hundred thousand people in the three districts of Azad Kashmir but was not yet aware of their names. Oxfam is planning to spend half million sterling pounds on its relief operation in the said disricts and has already launched an appeal to nearly one million British Pakistanis to generouly donate funds for helping the victims.

Coca-cola announces $ 2 mln donation for earthquake relief efforts

KARACHI, Oct 9 (APP)- Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Coca-Cola Company has announced that the Company and the Coca-cola Foundation have pledged $ 2 million (Rs 12 crores) for the earthquake relief efforts underway in Pakistan. A statement of the company issued here Sunday, said that $ 1 million out of the said amount would be deposited into the "President's Relief Fund for Earthquake Victims-2005" and $ 1 million will go to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies which are also engaged in the relief work at the sites of devastation. In addition to this, the Coca-cola will donate clean drinking water and other beverages to the local agencies coordinating in the relief efforts. The cheque will be presented to the President's Fund shortly.

NBP announces Rs35 mln for President of Pakistan Relief Fund

KARACHI, Oct 9 (APP): Chairman and President National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has announced a donation of Rs35 million for the President of Pakistan Relief Fund established for earthquake affectees. According to a statement of NBP issued here Sunday, instructions have been issued to all branches of NBP within and outside the country to establish special counters for accepting all kinds of donations from institutions and individuals in the President of Pakistan's Relief Fund. All employees of NBP have volunteered to donate one day's basic salary to President of Pakistan's Relief Fund.

An emergent meeting of NBP's senior executives has been convened to evolve a comprehensive strategy for streamlining the measures to assist the affected people in this natural catastrophe. Special committees/teams are being constituted in the affected areas to ensure all help in cash and kind on priority basis. NBP has appealed to all institutions and individuals to come forward in this hour of national crisis and donate generously to the President's Relief Fund through NBP's special counters in Special Account No.999999.

PIA employees donate two days salary to President's Relief Fund

KARACHI, Oct 9 (APP)- Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced that all the employees have volunteered to contribute two days of their monthly salary to the "President's Relief Fund for Earthquake Victims-2005." The chairman PIA Tariq Kirmani is persnolly monitoring the relief efforts of the flag carrier of Pakistan, said a statement here Sunday. PIA has also offered to carry relief goods from all its stations in its global network, free of charge. PIA is already operating extra flights to facilitate the travel of near and dear ones to the victims at the venue of the natural disaster.
