Tethyan Copper Company (TCC) was approached by a financial team empowered by Prime Minister Imran Khan to negotiate an out of court settlement on the $ 6 billion penalty imposed by The International Center of Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). Reportedly, the company has agreed to waive off the penalty if it is given a chance to invest in Reko Dik extraction project again (even on the new terms of the contract).

In Shaa Allah, good news is around the corner.

Excellent news ...Thank you PM IK for saving the nation from US $6 billion...again a mess created the by the corrupt elements in the state and previous political govt.

There's a dire need to punish the responsible people and also institutionalisation of decision making about such large deals. Who signed that deal? ...It should not be prerogative / privilege of only one person and there should be a thorough procedure.

Excellent news.... I can’t help but hang my head in shame over how our politicians in the past acted to hurt Pakistan to make some dollars for themselves.
It's not just 6 billion penalty.. The earning potential is in hundreds of billions of dollars..

We couldn't sell our own commodity because of international litigation and many reputed companies were not ready to invest in the project because of political uncertainty.. Now if the old company is ready to invest, it means that there is some form of trust developed among investor community.

Yes, in shaa Allah it's huge.. If work starts on new terms, Pakistan will start getting a lot of money.. Most of the sources say that Pakistan's share would be more than $ 200 billion at current gold and copper prices.
And the great thing is that if we get cheap gas from Iran. We should treat this as a business deal and do not attach and religious or political strings.

But this won't be complete until we punish the responsible people i.e. Ch Iftikhar and others who signed the deal.

AFAIK Iran is under sanctions we cannot do trade with them.

I personally don't trust Iran specially after 26th February.. How they tried to backstab us is beyond me. They also kept their eyes closed on RAW network operating from their land against Pakistan..

We must stick to the business terms only. You are right that we shouldn't bring religious or political angle when it comes to business, but we should only play like cold businessmen with them..

are they going with old same agreement or they have signed a new one?any one can confirm this?

Reports are coming that PMIK has asked a committee to ascertain the responsible parties in this whole fiasco.. in shaa Allah, their faces will come in front of the whole nation very soon.. I am very hopeful about it..

Bad news. The company was involved in corruption worth billions of dollars. Unless proper check and balance is kept on them, it should not be allowed to work again in Pakistan irrespective of the cost. They looted billions of dollars from this nation with the help of the corrupts.
