What's new

Refitted Viraat more lethal

Maybe we should go for 10-15 more, whadd'ya say?

why dude???.......harriers have become old and there is no chance of recieving any further upgrades......if we want vertical lift capability then F-35 B will be better i say.

Sea Apaches on the Viraat, backed with the ASW choppers. And a squadron of Naval Rustoms. Add this to any escort and it would be really lethal. This can be used as a potent SEAD platform.

Why would you procure a totally new and highly expensive fighter, for a carrier that will be used only for 5 to 6 years? Not to mention that the fighter might only be available by then!

Apparently.. the refit was focused on Chappati's and thai food??
The article seems to focus on that..
Its an old hulk, best left to rust after IAC nears completion...or anchor it off goa and let some entrepreneur make it into a hotel or wedding hall.

The upgrade may be with the FRS mk-51's..
or the Sea Kings.. not with the Viraat.

There is a naval museum in Goa having lots of old IN aircraft. Will try and upload a few of those photos, had clicked. But yeah, she deserves a righful resting place.

i never mentioned that F-35 B should be used only for Viraat.................if you read my post carefully then you will see that i have written that if we require vertical lift capability then we should go for F-35 as it is the better fighter for any purpose necessary......but for your part i agree with the fact that buying F-35 B focused only on the viraat will be foolish....

It is about the upgrade of Viraat, which was necessary, since induction of INS Vikramaditya is delayed. IN had either the chance to do it or not to have a carrier at all and since this carrier would be useful as a helicopter carrier, it is useful in disaster relief missions in the meantime as well.

Vertical lift is not needed anyway, because Sea Harriers and F35B are taking off via ski-jump from Viraat and since you replied to Skull and Bones idea to add more Harriers to Viraat, there was only one why to understand it.
