Jaguar Deep Penetration Strike Aircraft during Iron Fist 2013
NEW DELHI:
India is sending its frontline Su 30 MKI air superiority fighters as well as the Jaguar deep penetration attack aircraft for the most complex air exercise with US forces in Alaska next year.

The prestigious 'Red Flag' exercise will also see NATO forces taking part in war games that will have a focus on special operations.

Sources have told ET that the Indian air force will be sending a 12 aircraft team to the US in April that would include four each of the Su 30 and Jaguar fighters, besides two C 17 tactical lift aircraft and IL 78 midair refulers each. "The final plan is in place and 176 personnel from the Indian side will take part. A special focus will be on carrying out air operations in an environment where troops are also functioning closely on the ground," an official involved in the exercise told ET.

The Red Flag would be the most complex aerial war game between the two nations and would include Aerial Early Warning aircraft from NATO forces as well as a small delegation from Denmark. India has once again refrained from taking its Aerial early warning aircraft for the overseas exercise.

The US side is expected to take part with its cutting edge fighters, including the F 22 Raptor. Red Flag is a showcase aerial exercise that features the best pilots and aircraft from around the world. India was to take part in a 2013 edition of the war game which was abruptly called off after a series of budget cuts by Washington to the US military training program.

The last time the Indian Air Force took part in an exercise of this scale was at the Nellis Red Flag in 2008 where the Su 30 MKI fighters featured, crossing swords with advanced western fighters for the first time. Sending aircraft for such an exercise has to be carefully planned, particularly due to the high expenses involved.

By some estimates, the budget for the exercise could well exceed Rs 100 crore.

They'll do it all the time. Of course they'll wanna try dogfight against the Raptors. Raptors gonna waste the Su-30MKI in dog fight but the Raptors not invincible. If you turn on your radar behind its ***, you'll get radar lock, not to mention the thermal heat etc...
Flankers are big, so they'll have coming soft defences as well as active, given the TOW. The 2 seat is also an advantage in dogfights.
But yes, they'll be some "questionable" reporting.
Regardless, the IAF gets a valuable lesson.

Seen that video before.
They are a professorial air force and a SERIOUS threat. They should not perform that badly.

New pilots. The WO is the veteren. However during the initial cope India ex. the Indians used Su-30MK NOT the MKI.
Those pilots in MK were experienced, thats when the Su-30MK kicking F-15 but which was over bloated since it was goofing around play fighting. NOT red flag.

I wonder y ? you guy keep comparing F22 with MKI, Is it fair to compare 5th Gen with 4th Gen Fighters. BIG on Radar, etc, MKI is not a stealth fighter. Russians have made special request not to use RADAR, so they have to be on Training mode. How Many countries in the world would say, they are better than US air force? Launch time more than 30 seconds, we understand these thing Very well.

Correction, the Indian MEDIA makes such claims. The IAF NEVER discusses the results of such exercises on record and I challenge anyone to find me evidence to the contrary.

Seen that video before.

Who performed badly? The USAF officer (who, by the way, was not part of the Red Flag exercise) praised the IAF's proffesionlism and explained the issues they encountered (lack of situational awareness because they didn't link with NATO standard Link-16 datalinks leading to higher blue-blue engagments but he was also wrong on many technocal points. All in all an over analysed incident that pandered to the audience (all ex-USAF guys).

Further. Conformation of the lengths and investment being made by Indian airforce to ensure they are Well drilled unit to take on and destroy any. Opponent

I see USAF F16s and 15s losing miserably and the whole USAF folks saying F22 could only stand up to all this. This is why F35 is so critical to USAF and we need to speed up this program. The gap of USAF and other AFs is clsoing way too fast and there would be 100 analysts/experts up in arms saying F35 is the only solution to all this.

A stray article in sputnik will read Russian flankers made US jets bite dust. and article will go on to say how the 15s and 16s lost miserably. only 22 could kick some bu tts but being 5th gen that was "expected"

A senate committee will then approve more new funds for F35 program

History will tell how USAF used IAF jets to get approval for more funds for its flagship program.

Don know know why i feel i have read this story before................
