It's clear as day as to why Pakistan recognized the murderous Taliban regime in Afghanistan. For 'strategic depth' against India. Pakistan had by then become paranoid about its security vis a vis India. It needed a pliable govt in Afghanistan which would bow to the wishes of the Establishment to ensure security of its Western borders.
For this to happen, the Pakistani Establishment did all it could to support and recognize the illegitimate Taliban govt.
Why couldn't the Pakistani establishment just improve its ties with all sides in Afghanistan specially the Northern Alliance? Why the need for funding and training of Taliban? I swear to God the idiots sitting in Islamabad are retards. That's what happens when you change your capital from a large educated city to some hills near villages. The input of bureaucrats were mostly paindus who got filthy rich due to the capital being shifted next to their villages.
