LAHORE: Only a month after Rashid Latif was offered the post of Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) chief selector, the former captain announced he won’t be accepting the offer, Express News reported on Wednesday.

Latif, who is part of the Port Qasim Authority’s sports department, was named chief selector on February 26. He was to replace former cricketer Azhar Khan, who served as the acting chief selector for the Asia Cup and the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20.

Explaining his decision to not take up the charge, Latif said he did not want to become part of any controversy and that his departure was an amicable one.

The Express Tribune had earlier learnt that PCB and Latif reached a deadlock regarding the induction of former captain Mohammad Yousuf in the selection panel. Reportedly, a few senior players tried to pressurise the board not to appoint Yousuf.

Yousuf has been openly criticising the likes of Shahid Afridi, Misbahul Haq, Mohammad Hafeez and Umar Akmal in recent months while there had also been certain grudges during his playing days with the current senior lot.
