Kargil was not a victory but it's also not a lost specially when you are sitting in enemy territory on its highest peaks you go and read about warfare before reading crap. It doesn't matter what the event was, the army will protect its own (to a considerable extent). If a senior former officer was convicted for any sort of political meddling, or any other event, it opens the door for the government to prosecute other officers for the same issues, which is something the army will avoid as it seeks to continue its immunity for certain roles.
