On upgrading the Mirage M2K's---india had no leverage over france---india was a CAPTIVE AUDIENCE---you had no where to go with the upgrade package but france.

That's not correct! We could had upgraded the Mirage with Israeli radar, avionics and weapons (which we partially do), or could had done it like the UAE, by choosing systems from Italy. The point however is, that the overhaul of the fighter itself, just as the addition of MICA are unique capabilities that only the French could provide. Dassault certainly won't allow an external vendor to overhaul the M2Ks and no other BVR missile fits to the fuselage stations. So leverage was there to an extend, but it just wasn't too smart to move away from what the French offered.

With no orders any production line will stop at some point, the fact however is, that Rafales current order for France alone will keep production running beyond 2020. That is not the case for US Tees, nor for the EF. The Gripen E will start production only by 2018, which means it will be the only western non stealth fighter to compete with Rafale in 2020 and beyond. And given the fact that Dassault and BAE are teaming up for many of the future French and British manned or unmanned aircrafts now, there is hardly a loss of know how that can be expected. In fact, the deeper ties of France and Briten in the defence field, France supporting US in global defence issues will further improve chances for Dassaults defence secort, than reduce it.

Rafale is adavnce fighter and is more suited for A2G role.

The flanker is more suited for A2A role, however predicteing the exact outcome of clash between Rafales and Chinese flankers is difficult.

My friend was a chief test pilot at HAL and has flown almost every aircraft in the world including the Eurofighter Typhoon, F-16, Gripen etc. The Rafale he says, beats them hollow in almost every aspect. And Chinese fighters haven't even been proven yet. They are in any case no match to the Typhoons and Gripens.

And that coming from a test pilot of 20 years means much. That stupid envoy hasn't even sat in a cockpit of a Wapiti and he's spewing crap all over.

This world has plenty of idiots, and more sheeple who fall for such stupid nonsense.

It's just as credible as the Indian ambassador in Italy, that stated that the EF is leading the competition. People with no relation to the actual matter, can simply not be taken as credible, no matter from which side.
