I wish to share with my fellow Indian members ,this story about an incident that happened a few days ago in Mumbai, with one Mr. Kima from Mizoram. Mr Kima is a programmer- game developer nikalpadi have been living in mumbai for a very long time. One sunday afternoon few weeks ago, after the church service he was enjoying some fun time over a glass of nimboo-paani with fellow mizo community members. A passing police van suddenly stopped and the driver angrily shouted something at a group of mizo girls and drove off .All Mr. Kima could hear was "Nepali" and "Kathmandu". So he enquired one of the frightened girl who replied that the police asked them to go back to Nepal.Apalled by this behaviour of a policeman , he noted down the police van number and decided to do something about it..
He blogged about it and sent an open invitation for a cup of tea in a place of cop's choosing for reconcilation and to do away with all the misunderstanding that the cop had against his own countryman.
The blog was picked up and published in Firstpost website and was subsequently read by the Joint CP mumbai Mr.Date ,who even gave out his phone number and email for Mr Kima to contact.
He ordered a departmental enquiry and appointed Mr. Tamboli DCP to help with enquiry. The guilty cop was quickly identified and as per the original invitation ,was made to have a discussion with Mr.Kima and DCP Tamboli over cups of coffee.
The offending cop repeatedly apologised and stated that he didn't even know that his action would cause so much anguish. All he thought that Mr.Kima and his friends , owing to their mongoloid features, were from Nepal and had shouted “Kathmandu se aa reya la kya? (Have you come from Kathmandu?)”
Mr.Kima stated that he did not want any action to be taken against the policeman and that “We are not here to fight with anyone. We are here to make them see our side so that they feel friendly with us.”
A nice ending of the incident which otherwise could have turned into another sour experience for another north easterner . All thanks to Officers Jt CP Date , DCP Tamboli and Mr.Kima for upholding the faith and defending the idea of this nation--unity in our diversity..
