Qatar has decided to withdraw its measures against the UAE in a significant concession aimed at averting the consequences of the UAE’s case in WTO against an illegal Qatari ban on UAE goods and services.

During a session of the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) of the WTO, on Friday to examine the UAE’s request to set up an arbitration committee to assess Qatari efforts to ban UAE consumer goods and services, Qatar announced that it had withdrawn the measures they established against the UAE. It also said that it has partially revoked measures that banned buying and selling commodities exported by the UAE.

The Qatari climb-down recognises that Doha's policies had violated its international obligations. However, the partial concession doesn't not resolve some of the fundamental issues of the dispute, and the UAE continues to explore its legal options to ensure that Qatar abides by its WTO obligations.

Abdullah Hamdan Al Naqbi, Director of the international law Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, stated that Qatar's confession of its previous violations one day before the UAE request was heard '' is a clear concession''. ''We continue to seek Qatar’s full withdrawal of these measures so as to ensure Doha's commitment to its WTO obligations and ensure our exports of goods has free access to Qatar markets'' he underscored.

He added, ''We see today that Qatar approach, which placed it on the defensive, did not count and think of the damage that will come back from this trend.''

I'm living in doha and working in government sector. All the infrastructure projects are on going smoothly without any delays. The general inflation and expensive commodities is similar across all over the GCC. Have you seen how expensive dubai has become? Don't go by the words of someone, Come visit Qatar and see for yourself

@Khafee my friend,

Thanks for the tag... was late/bedtime... so didn't answer.

Now then... let us see what is happening... UAE is the door to KSA. Of course, you know what I mean.

We have to look at broader picture...

Qatar went the Persian way and indirectly Russia. Turkey was/is also leaning towards Russia so by Turkey coming into the mix... things became a bit more complicated.

Turkey felt that the coup had its links to KSA-UAE combine.... there was obvious anger... Qatar thought to play bigger role trying to utilise Iranian-Turkish help in its 'standing-up' to KSA-UAE combine.... it thought that the growing pressure in the West regarding Yemen war might play in its favour...

When the US placed sanctions on Turkey and now Iran... Qatar's little enterprise of bigboys politics is having less legs to stand than it previous thought or was assured of.

Given that background it became a little untenable for our Qatari friends. Quite nice people...

Essentially, it was a matter of old Arabic persumed hurt ego...which played out in the public.

Sad really... what could have been settled in the palace should have been settled in the palace.... As now it is being settled in the palace.

The total amount of capital in sovereign funds of GCC is much more than the entier GDP of India... go figure!

And then there are individual business groups and Ya Sheiks as well!

My old contention stands: ME is of Strategic Interest to Pak....

And if we succeed in marrying ME Capital to Pak economy then Pak will become of Strategic Interst to GCC as well. But for that to happen Pak State needs to have Clear Policy!

As a student of Finance, therefore naturally history, my observation is that Arab internal disputes have best chance of resolution when they are solved by the Arabs themselves...

Qatar needs to come back to the fold.... LNG card is not going for much longer... KSA is coming in the market in a big way... you will see quite aggressive sales approach there.... both in price and longterm contracts... KSA will be coming to Pak in a big way.

I would like to see a framework of GCC-Pak Economic Corridor to be signed before the end of this year... with strong Security underpinning. When Pak becomes security partner for the Core GCC then I believe palace matters will remain palace matters... and we wouldn't see such open spats...

We cann't have such disputes in the future.. if we as people wish to remain relevant in the emerging future.

So, yes, its is quite logical that Qatar is coming back to the fold... now someone, somewhere has to play the older brother within the palace... and have a great gathering somewhere... good foto ops...

You keep doing your thing!
