A Qatar delegation, led by its armed forces chief Lieutenant General (Pilot) Salem Hamad Al-Akil Al-Nabet, arrived in Dhaka on Monday on a three-day visit in response to an invitation by Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed.

Salem Hamad paid a courtesy call on Shafiuddin Ahmed at the Army Headquarters in the capital on Tuesday and discussed potential areas of cooperation between the two friendly countries, said a press release.
Appreciating the high level of preparedness, excellent standard of training, startling role in peacekeeping and the overall affairs of the Bangladesh Army, General Salem hinted at the possibility of employing Bangladesh Army personnel in Qatar similar to that in Kuwait.

He also expressed interest in training exchanges between the armed forces of the two countries.
Later, Lieutenant General Salem met Security Adviser to Prime Minister Major General (retired) Tariq Ahmed Siddiqui. He also called on the chiefs of the Bangladesh Navy and the Bangladesh Air Forces.

Earlier on Monday, the Qatar delegation attended a banquet dinner, followed by a cultural programme. Seraya Ali Al-Qahtani, ambassador of Qatar, and senior officials of Qatar and the Bangladesh Armed Forces were present at the event, the release reads.
General Salem is scheduled to visit the Bangladesh Military Academy in Chattogram on Wednesday and depart for Qatar later in the day.

Good stuff... new revenue stream for the army... get it signed immediately...

We need to see this as an opportunity for skilled manpower export.

Qatar and Kuwait are our friends in the Gulf, and generally decent educated people from what I have seen from my short visits. I am all for helping them in any cooperation sphere possible.

The amount we might earn could be larger than the amount we get from UN deployments plus other bonuses. Not to mention having access to the greatest equipment on earth.

Let us not ignore the soft power aspect here, which I am certain will boost BD workers and goods' image there.

Oh, earnings will exceed paltry UN payments (~USD 1300/month for NCO's) by a mile and a half.

I have seen the commentator in a few videos were talking about these countries asking BD to play an important defense role there.

Gulf countries are worried both about external as well as domestic enemies. The Royal families are worried about their own safety.

our professional BA troops can play a role of tranquilizer in that zone, and in exchange BD gets specialized treatment from Qatar on LNG import and employment of our people.

BA troops have earned a name for themselves in the UN missions.

Dear god!

We are now the mercenaries for the Arab sheikhs!

Hope they won’t pay us back with religious zealotry.

''why didn't we think about X initiative to make more money , earlier ? '' (a never ending BD story)
Bangladeshi military contingent is permanently present in kuwait since desert storm and i thought periodically BD has sent personnel to Saudi. I think there has been effort to send troops. We are just seeing some fruition of that effort now.

PK personnel earns a lot in the gulf... we must earnestly work to secure a piece of the pie.
