TEHRAN: Masked gunmen on Wednesday ambushed and killed the local commander of a paramilitary security force in southwestern Iran, an associate of Iran's top general recently killed in an American drone strike in Baghdad, the official IRNA news agency reported.

The slain commander, Abdolhossein Mojaddami, headed the Basij forces, a paramilitary wing of the Revolutionary Guard used for internal security and other tasks, in the town of Darkhoein.

He was gunned down in front of his home in the town in the country's oil rich Khuzestan province.

Two gunmen on a motorcycle, armed with an assault rifle and a hunting rifle, ambushed Mojaddami, IRNA reported.

Other Iranian media said the gunmen's faces were covered with masks and that four shots were fired.

The case is under investigation and a motive was not immediately clear, but Basij units had been involved in violent clashes with demonstrators in the area in November in which many protesters were injured and killed.

Amnesty International has reported that more than 300 people were killed in the unrest across the country, though Iran has not announced a death toll.

Mojaddami's killing is seen another blow to the Revolutionary Guard, following the death of top general Qasse Soleimani earlier this month in a U.S. drone strike in Iraq.

Mojaddami was described by IRNA as an associate of Soleimani, who was the head of the Quds forces, the foreign wing of the Guard.

Having such intensive security in country; it will be too naive to say that mere protesters can react in such manner by taking down high value target like this. It will be like either a deliberate diversion from investigation or an unintentional mention. If the hit comes from within; two birds with one stone, will be enough to label protesters. And if it isn't how media said; most probably some sleeping cell has the guts to take him down like this. But, it was planned well & executed in professional manners.

Looks like ameicans are determined to finish top leadership of IRCG.

He is hardly "top." Misleading title.

CIA and/or Mossad back to Work

Could be.

Iran needs to establish deterrence----Iran needs to assassinate some American or Israeli official---otherwise this pressure will continue

It is time for Iranian intelligence service to strike back.

That's the catch 20-20. Though I agree with you, it is hard to fight the might of the US when it is further aided by Israeli and Gulf intelligence networks and capabilities.

Americans don't have assets with in Iran. Israel and India has assets in Iran. Every thing going wrong in Iran is linked to Indian embassy. Indian consulates in Iran are actually Israeli embassies to chanel money to anti Iran elements in Iran.

I think this is work of Mosad.
Yes. Israel's motive is to reduce the heat, probably from the resistance forces in the Golan..

If there is 1 country in the ME that has a record of successfully "fighting the might of the US", its Iran, HANDS DOWN. No other country comes even close. just sayin...

It seems like there are certain factions within Iran who wanted Solemani and his network to get eliminated.

Perhaps he was getting too big for his own boots?

Iranian response after his assassination is really strange one. They should have gone after a high rank American or Israeli office holder as a tit for tat but they didn't.

Do you intend to fight Israelis and Indians to the last Iranian?

I like this theory of yours even more than I like some of your economic theories.
