There is a "kashmir dispute" because during our formative years, India foolishly took that to the UN. A mistake we have NEVER ever repeated.

The 'dispute' is as much relevant as china's annexation of Tibet. ...... which is to say, not relevant at all.

You cannot 'veto' foreign aggression ...seriously ? ........... being member of USNC will have no relevance on the real ground. We just want to be in for prestige, not for any practical reason.

The Nuclear embargo helped India develop a Nuclear AND a Thermo Nuclear Bomb and a very credible ICBM .......AND a very independent foreign policy ....... ya, we can all see how damaging that was.

About Iran, we traded oil for Nuclear energy and Uranium. Not a bad deal. However Iran continues to be the second largest supplier of Oil to India. Not bad, won't you say ? We are now building an underwater pipeline from Iran to India.

Israel exist as a slave to the US, something India is not. So there is not comparison there either, is there ?

Lastly Russia does not need our support, it is strong enough to do what it wants to do. What it wants is for India to not stand with the US. Its a win win...and that is how India plays the game.

China can never be close to Russia. A temporary marriage of convenience is possible but the Chinese and Russians are not natural allies by any stretch of the imagination.

President Vladimir Putin thanked India for taking a “restrained and objective” stand on Russia’s muscle flexing in Ukraine.

Addressing a joint meeting of the Russian Parliament on Tuesday on the occasion of Crimea’s reunification with Russia Mr. Putin singled out China and India as the countries that showed understanding for Russia’s involvement in the Ukraine crisis.

“We are grateful to all those who understood our actions in Crimea,” Mr. Putin said. “We are grateful to the people of China. We highly appreciate India’s restraint and objectivity.”

India did not join the Western powers’ condemnation of Russia’s intervention in Crimea and kept a low profile on the issue.

The Ministry of External Affairs, on March 6, issued neutral comment expressing concern for the fate of “more than 5000 Indian nationals” in Ukraine and called for “sincere and sustained diplomatic efforts to ensure that issues between Ukraine and its neighbouring countries are resolved through constructive dialogue”.

National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon gave a clearer indication of where India’s sympathies lied when he said in reply to a question, “There are legitimate Russian and other interests involved and we hope they are discussed and resolved.”

India has not reacted to the Ukrainian Ambassador’s request to recognise the new interim government in Kiev and to voice “support against the Russian invasion”.
