They are just testing all their weapon systems.

Now they can claim that all their weapons are battle proven and make a sale like French are doing with their RAFALEs.

.
Ukrainian army suffered thousands of KIA fighting some Donbas militants over a period of a few months in a low scale conflict, despite having superb body armor and hospitals. Rebels in Syria losing tens of thousands of personnel to a juggernaut.

I think it's a question of asymmetric warfare tactics of the rebels. You really can't bomb everything you see though that's what one assumes.

.
The rebel representatives at peace talks are threatening to boycott the talks. Their reason? They are saying, if the situation continues like this on the ground, there will be no more rebels left alive, for them to represent. Very rational reason.

That is why Saudi Arabia has just announced to send its army to Syria to replenish rebels. Very irrational response.

.
Despite all these weapons, ground fores are needed to kill the insurgency. The only viable ground force right now is Syrian army. Russia should invest in Syrian army as the next phase in this war.

T-90MS tank would be terrifying if they test it in combat

LOL NATO deployed far more in Afghanistan, yet the battle still goes on.
Thing is, you can't completely win a war where the adversary doesn't fight like a conventional army. They are for the most part militias fighting a guerrilla war, making use of IED and hit & run tactics etc. Conventional wars are totally different from unconventional ones which are more tricky. Example is second world war or Iraq war and today's guerrilla warfare in Afghanistan. If these rebels were fighting a conventional war like a regularly army a la Saddam Hussein Iraq war, then all these wars wont even last a week against military powers like U.S,Russia, U.K, France etc.

It's same situation in Syria. Though the rebels in Syria fight more conventionally than those in Afghanistan and Iraq did. U.S,U.K, Russia, France can't put an end to this war simply by air power and in case of U.S,U.K and Russia special forces. The rebels/ISIS will never be defeated that way. So yes this war will go on for a longgg time to comw

Syria is not an taliban style guerrilla insurgency, here the various factions control big areas including cities, towns and villages so conventional force works, which is why they've been capitulating and retreating in Lattakia and soon in Aleppo (hopefully)

Try this..............................:enjoy:

On serious note.................... strategy is not good enough............ enemy is not well defined............. too many parties are involved in Middle East, each with own goal and agenda..........so situation will remain silly for long time in Syria-Iraq
