Anton Tumanov gave up his life for his country - but his country won’t say where, and it won’t say how.

His mother knows. She knows that Mr Tumanov, a 20 year-old junior sergeant in the Russian army, was killed in eastern Ukraine, torn apart in a rocket attack on August 13.

Most Russian soldiers killed in Donbas ‘came from Moscow, Dagestan and Rostov’ : UNIAN news
06.01.2015

Most of the Russian soldiers and mercenaries killed in fighting in Ukraine last year came from the Dagestan, Pskov and Rostov regions of Russia, as well as Krasnodar, Moscow and St. Petersburg, Ukrainian news broadcaster TSN has reported.

TSN said the information came from the Open Russia movement, which has investigated the deaths in Ukraine of Russian soldiers from almost all regions of the Russian Federation.

According to Open Russia, a total of 202 Russians were killed in fighting on the territory of Ukraine in 2014 - a number significantly lower than those cited by other human rights organizations and activists.

In particular, human rights organization Cargo-200 from Ukraine to Russia, which also investigates the number of Russian soldiers killed in Ukraine, says it has recorded 4,672 Russian casualties.

Another human rights organization, Soldiers' Mothers of St. Petersburg, has said the number of Russian soldiers killed in the Donbas conflict area amounts to 500.

KYIV, January 22 /Ukrinform/. Permanent Representative of Ukraine to UN Yuriy Sergeyev asked the Russian delegation directly what specific Russian armed forces were doing in eastern Ukraine at the meeting of the UN Security Council on Wednesday.

He even switched his speech from English into Russian to ask the question, the Ukrinform own correspondent reports.

His question included specific military names of Russian troops and their original locations that have been operating in concrete eastern Ukrainian areas. In particular, the Ukrainian diplomat mentioned Russian troops that came from Pskov, Ulyanovsk, Maikop, Stavropol, Volgograd, Kaliningrad, Kostroma, Shylovo, Yurga, Oleyska and other cities but whose presence is hidden by the Russians.

"Overall there's more than eight thousand personnel. Are they all on vacation as we have heard explanations by the Russian side? Do their families know about it?" ambassador Sergeyev asked head of the Russian delegation.

The Ukrainian Representative said that "Russia officially denies information on dispatching its military to eastern Ukraine but their families confirm the fact."

Yuriy Sergeyev addressed the UN Security Council that illegal armed groups have recently enlarged their zone of attacks and shelling. They are supported by the Russian Federation through receiving so-called "Russian "humanitarian convoys."

Although the Russian delegation used the right to an additional speech at the meeting, it didn't answer the question posed by the Ukrainian side.

Kremlin sends conscripts from St. Petersburg to fight in Ukraine - read on - uatoday.tv

Moscow has sent a military unit largely made up of conscripts to fight in Ukraine, Ukrainian newspaper Novy Region reports

UNIAN: Conscripts make up 70% of the 138th Guards Motor Rifle Brigade, which was recently sent to the eastern Ukraine, who are mainly drawn from St. Petersburg, Novy Region said.

The conscripts were drafted into the unit after it suffered substantial losses in fighting in Ukraine last summer, the newspaper said. It said Ukrainian security officials have already learned about the whereabouts of the brigade and its planned route.

As was reported to the Russian news portal Grani by the press secretary of the committee "Soldiers' Mothers of St. Petersburg" Alexander Peredruk, the organization received complaints indicating that conscripts have been actually forced to sign contracts for their deployment to Ukraine.

"Parents told us that about 70-80 people were gathered in an auditorium, they were insulted and kept inside until they agreed to sign a contract," one social activist said.

According to Peredruk, in the last two months the committee received five such appeals from the parents of the conscripted soldiers. In addition, such complaints were also made in anonymous calls to the organization's hotline.

"According to the parents' statements, about 80 draftees signed contracts, but this figure is approximate and unverified" Peredruk told.

He added that all the statements that the organization has received were submitted to the military prosecutor office.

Two battalions of Russian troops crossed the border from Russia into Ukraine on Monday, the Information and Analytical Center of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine reported earlier.

Stoltenberg: Russian troops in eastern Ukraine are supporting offensive operations - read on - uatoday.tv

NATO Secretary General statement on the attack on Mariupol

NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg: "Fighting in eastern Ukraine has sharply escalated, with indications of a large-scale offensive by Russian-backed separatists at multiple locations in the Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts as well as against the city of Mariupol. This is in utter disregard of the ceasefire. The shelling of residential areas in the city of Mariupol from separatist-controlled territory has cost the lives of at least 20 civilians, and injured many more.

For several months we have seen the presence of Russian forces in eastern Ukraine, as well as a substantial increase in Russian heavy equipment such as tanks, artillery and advanced air defence systems. Russian troops in eastern Ukraine are supporting these offensive operations with command and control systems, air defence systems with advanced surface-to-air missiles, unmanned aerial systems, advanced multiple rocket launcher systems, and electronic warfare systems.

I strongly urge Russia to stop its military, political and financial support for the separatists, stop destabilising Ukraine and respect its international commitments."

'LNR Army' – penal battalion for Russian criminals - Міністерство оборони України
Monday, January 26. DONBAS — According to the ATO press center, on January 25, near Sanjarivka, Ukrainian servicemen take captive the tank driver, citizen of Russian Federation Mr. G. living in Krasnodar Krai (Republic of Adygea).

According to the rebel, having three previous conscriptions he was arrested by representatives of the RF Ministry of Interior in Rostov-na-Donu in flagrant delict (car theft). He was proposed to defend Russkyi Mir (Russian World) in the east of Ukraine instead of prison.

On December 22, 2014, he crossed the State Border of Ukraine and became the T-64 tank driver in so-called LNR.

According to him, on January 23-25 he took part in combat operations against the Ukrainian Armed Forces and during the assault of a Ukrainian post he was captured by the Ukrainian military.

He also noted that about 70 percents of his unit were citizens of Russia whose prison sentences would be suspended in exchange of killing the Ukrainians.

The Kremlin’s goal is obvious: to solve three problems simultaneously: clean the country from criminals, solve the problem of necessity to feed and keep condemned persons, as well as join the ranks of Donbas citizens who defend their land by killing the Ukrainian citizens and destroying the infrastructure.
