If i am not wrong protests erupted in the capital, Kiev after the Ukrainian government suspended signing agreement between Ukraine and EU association agreement in November 2013 which let to violence. Ukrainians wanted to be part of EU and have better life and now there have already signed that agreement with EU and one after another EU countries are ratifying it.

These protests in real destroyed the economy and led for more violence and it ended in annexation of Crimea and other Ukrainian regions. And now what we are seeing that countries like Belarus and Kazakhstan which are part of CTSO are trying to work for the solution.
Nazarbayev urges Russia, Ukraine to reach compromise over Donbas
"I am asking Russia and Ukraine to think about a compromise in order to end this conflict and preserve the territorial integrity of Ukraine, because this situation [the Donbas conflict] is nonsense and it should not have happened," Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said after his negotiations with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Kyiv on Monday.
He said the confrontation and sanctions "were a road to an impasse and a path to nowhere."
The Ukrainian and Kazakh presidents confirmed the importance of the Minsk agreements for the peace process.

Russian Federation and Ukraine did signed agreements in 1990 that Crimea will be part of Ukraine and Russian federation will station naval fleet at Sevastopol. Crimean Tatars return back to Crimea under Ukraine sovereignty and these tatars were deported under the Soviet rule to Uzbek SSR.
