BBC are not a very bright bunch of people (dont let the accents, poshness, snottiness fool you)....and they are about to get shellacked by British govt (removal of mandatory TV license on brit public)...so serves them right.

The Island is isolating itself at a rapid pace. Protectionism as means of political diplomacy may not help them Brits this time.

Do people know that urdu was nobody's mother tongue. It was mostly sanskirt and bhojpuri type languages spoken in uttar pradesh and bihar, while Gujrati and memoni in Gujarat while Hyderabad Deccan had telugo or something.

But Muslims of those area start adopting urdu as an identity for Muslims.

Yes local languages should be compulsory, but why the hate for urdu? It's no one's mother tongue historically speaking. Pakistan doesn't lose anything by having unified under one language. In fact nations prosper more under one language, look at China, Germany, UK, US, even Bangladesh.

Indian side punjab use Gurmukhi script; not Sanskrit. And in Pakistan it's written in shahmukhi, derived from persio-arabic script. If bigots would only be smart as well.

There is no reason to be this paranoid about a language spoken by more than 60 percent of the country and where Pakistan movement was propagated through Punjabi culture and literature.

Being overly emotional or angry about it will not change the course of nature. You cannot stop evolution.

Sanskit is of same lineage not the other way around. Sanskrit in itself is not a script. Also, gurmukhi is derived from Landa script; very local to Pakistan.

Punjabi is already very much widely spoken in Pakistan. Infact punjabi is often mixed with Urdu in jokes etc. I have yet to see any Urdu jokes in which Sindhi, Balochi or Pashtu is mixed. Many people recommended me Alpha, Bravo Charlie drama but I stopped watching barely half of 1st episode because there were so much Punjabi dialogues and it was very annoying to watch. Thank God they didn't do this this time with Ehd e wafa

Sanskrit is a dead language for more than 2000 years or so, it is not spoken anywhere and there are no native speakers of this language since more than 2000 years. Only gangu Brahmins have kept it alive in written form because their religious sacred texts are written in Sanskrit language.​
