Conviction in murder case
Raza was convicted in the murder case of killing six people during an assassination attempt on a former Gujrat Tehsil Nazim and a former member of Provincial Assembly of the Punjab Ghulam Sarwar Bhooch in 1998.[2][11] Bhooch survived the assassination attempt.[2][11] Raza was awarded a death sentence under section 7 of Anti Terrorism Act and he remained in the Gujranwala prison where met with key figure of a banned outfit who was also facing jail in the murder case of senior police officer.[2]

In 2003, Raza was set free after reconciliation.[2] The Supreme Court of Pakistan suspended the acquittal judgement in 2016.[12]

Arrest in Pervez Musharraf murder attempt
A law enforcement agency had also taken him into custody for his alleged role in murder attempt on former president Pervez Musharraf due to his alleged links with militant groups. He remained in captivity for more than a year but released later on due to the intervention of the PML-Q.[2]
