ISLAMABAD: At least 20 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers from the Punjab Assembly have formed a separate group to resolve the province's issues, vowing to stick together to have their demands met, Geo News reported on Monday.

The group of 20 MPAs, led by MPA Sardar Shahab-ud-Din Khan of Layyah, have put forth their demands to Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, requesting that public projects be set up and funds released for their constituencies.

Sardar Shahab-ud-Din told Geo News that the group comprises Ghazanfar Abbas Chheena, Tamoor Ali Lali, Muhammad Mamoon Tarar, Chaudhry Faisal Farooq Cheema, Ejaz Khan, Gulraiz Afzal Chan Gondal, Col (r) Ghazanfar Abbas Shah, Khawaja Muhammad Daud Sulamani, Sardar Muhammad Mohiudin Khan Khosa, and Amir Inayat Khan Shahani, among others.

Sardar Shahab said that their group has demanded the Punjab chief minister to release funds and set up public projects for their constituencies.

The MPA further said that he was and would continue to be with the PTI, and would also contest future elections from the ruling party's platform.

He said that he has already discussed the issues with Buzdar and talked about resolving people's problems in a meeting with him.

The PTI's coalition partners have expressed reservations during the past few days over their demands not being met, with the ruling party's own MPAs in Punjab were upset over similar issues as well.

It is noteworthy that the ruling PTI has a coalition government in the centre and in the Punjab province. The federal government's allies are the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M), and the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), whereas the PML-Q is a key partner in Punjab.

Someone help me understand this...

I thought assembly members had access to funds for projects in their areas, which they usually just use for corruption. If these funds are not available to them, is there an alternative mechanism to have these sorts of local projects done.

They are demanding development funds for their constituencies. It happens with every government nothing special. Blocks would emerge from noon league.

How does this process of development funds work? I don't live in Pakistan, so the detail of this is unknown to me. All i know is that our local MNA has gotten very rich off development funds. So rich is entire extended family now have come back to Pakistan rather than living in the UK. They only go there now to look after the businesses these development funds setup.

development funds are another means to corrupt the elected representative , this funds virtually becomes a medium for getting cuts from the fund which is at discretion of the member of the legislature .

this d.f was used primarily by zia ul haq to earn loyalties from the political segment which was quite sane at that time but this practice consequentialy turned the parliament into a den of thugs devoid of any morality, ideology and class whatsoever.



The development fund in Pakistani political theater stands for more like a stick and carrot tactic to form a private poodle club by every civilian dynasty to consolidate their hold over raw power.



However musharaf wired a large chunk of d.f and administrative power directly to the elected local bodies govts hence weve witnessed the unprecedented socio economic growth in his time. That system also made sure the involvement of a common man into the larger national spectrum at grass root level much like what the civilized world is used to. But then these democrat gangstas made it to the power and took every bit of that empowerment from the people and reinstated the colonial style of governance, now everything is entrusted to the bureaucrats who directly answer to the control freaks sitting in the capitals. No member of the national legislature can have his share for his constituency let alone a town/ district Mayor without the approval of the deputy commissioner. These babus in cohorts with the likes of zafdari and Navas have put the cycle of devolution of power into reversal.


And the reason iam feeling happy about this development is that before the pti govt took charge the deputy commissioner would throw a bone or two at mpa's and mna's, and these very people would ultimately waste it on fancy projects without taking the ordinary folks of their respective constituencies on board but how come they as not many could approach them, but now even they ain't getting a penny so yeah it serves them btuxhes right.

A LOT of funds are still not released. Some because increased accountability is slowing down the process, some because bureaucrats with questionable loyalties are intentionally blocking the process, and some just plain incompetence from the certain official responsible for distributing it (district officials, civil servants etc.).

Punjab worked best under a strongman like Shahbaz to get hands on, because the province is far too big and complicated to run it otherwise. Really though the smart thing to do is just divide Punjab into smaller provinces.

Ss was more of a bluff master than an actual administrator, his party been recruiting civil servants in numbers since his brother became chief minister in the 80's so its much likely that those hand picked gonna prove their worth to their daddy.

The only good chief executive Punjab ever had was chaudhry parvaiz Ialhi not only he built pompous infra but institutions which made us a trend setter in social services far beyond south Asia

I can only speak from what I seen, and North Punjab and Lahore had good administration. Just poor policing, civil service, and federal government to support it.
