ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday announced the distribution of seats reserved for women and minorities, raising the total number of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) seats in the national assembly to 158.

According to the ECP, nine out of 13 independent winning candidates joined the PTI, swelling the total number of PTI's general seats to 125. Following the formula laid down in the Constitution, the PTI has now been allotted as many as 28 reserved women and five minority seats in the national assembly, taking its total seats to 158.

According to the official party standings issued by the ECP, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz is at the second position with 64 general seats. The party will get two minority seats and 16 women seats, taking its final tally to 82 seats in the 342 member house

National Assembly to elect prime minister on August 17

The Pakistan Peoples Party was a distant third with 42 general seats. According to the ECP, the PPP now has a total of 53 seats after being allotted two seats reserved for minorities and nine reserved for women.

Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal will have fifteen members in the house with 12 general seats, two women and a minority member.

Lawmakers asked to vacate additional seats before taking oath

Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid, Grand Democratic Alliance, Balochistan National Party and Balochistan Awami Party would receive one women reserved seat each.

The first session of the 15th National Assembly has been summoned on August 13 (Monday), while the election for the new prime minister is expected to take place on August 17 (Friday).

The PTI, which swept the July 25 general elections by winning 116 general seats, requires a simple majority of votes from the number of lawmakers present in the House to elect party chairman Imran Khan as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan.

. . .
Does this number of 158 include the 4 seats vacated by Khan and 1 by Ghulam Sarwar. Otherwise it will mean 153 seats in total, which makes getting to 172 that much difficult.

But then I don't think they will require 172 for now to get to simple majority, as elections were not held on 2 seats( Rawalpindi(coz of haneef abbasi) and other in Faisalabad (a candidate commited suicide). Then after IK vacates 4 seats, Ghulam Sarwar vacates 1, Pervaiz Elahi vacates 2 as he will retain provincial seat and Hamza Shahbaz vacates 1 as he retains the provincial seat as well. The total number in house will be 332 instead of 342, and 167 is the figure for getting to simple majority.

153 PTI, 5 BAP, 4 BNP, 1 AML, 7 MQMP , 3 GDA, 3(instead of 5) PML = 176 now that is a clear majority.

Now after By-elections, if PTI retains its 5 seats + AML/PTI wins the Pindi seat + PML wins chakwal and Gujrat seats = 176+8 = 184 seats with (PTI + AML = 160) so I don't think any of the coalition members will be able to blackmail the government, and I see MQMP being kicked out of the coalition after by-elections.
