PTI to challenge Maryam Nawaz’s appointment as PML-N vice president today

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday is set to challenge Maryam Nawaz’s appointment as vice president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in the Election Commission of Pakistan.

The application challenging her appointment is finalised by the PTI’s lawmakers.

“Awarding party position to Maryam Nawaz is in contradiction with the constitution and law of the land”, the plea read.

The daughter of erstwhile prime minister was convicted in the corruption reference and in this regard, she is not illegal to hold any political or public office.

It may be recalled that on May 6, Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaf (PTI) had decided to challenge Maryam Nawaz’s appointment as vice president Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

“Maryam Nawaz is convicted from the court, how she can hold a party position”, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had said.

Last week, PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif in a statement had announced to nominate a former prime minister and PML-N stalwart Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as Senior Vice President of the party.

While Maryam Nawaz, party supremo Nawaz Sharif’s political heir was appointed as vice president. Another party veteran Ahsan Iqbal was named as central secretary general of the PML-N.

Former finance minister Ishaq Dar, who is wanted in scores of corruption inquiries, was posted as president of the overseas chapter of the PML-N.

Good, I fully support this decision of govt to challenge her appointment and its a just move.
She have no right to b a party leader under the Supreme Court verdict against her.

No, this happens in politics. She is a convicted criminal, she is not eligible to hold political office. Now it is up to the courts to decide if that interpretation of the law is correct or not.

Imran khan is not going to give NRO to mariyum nawaz. It's only 7 months. Nawaz is going towards death slowly. He will not survive 1 year in prison due to health issue. Mariyum is using old ill father for politics. Hamza shahbaz was also smiling when he was dropping nawaz sharif in prison. He can see bright future after death of nawaz sharif in prison.

I think that there is a problem here. Since her conviction by the NAB is currently suspended by the IHC and this decision of IHC is upheld by SCOP. So, technically she is not convict, at present.
