PINDI BHATTIAN: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Begum Nighat Intezar has swept PP-107 Pindi Bhattian by-election with a palpable majority, Samaa reported.

According to unofficial results Ms Intezar bagged around 43,787 votes while the runner-up Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Sarfaraz Bhatti drew 38,515.


Ms Intezar, and Bhatti were the main contenders in this by-election.


PTI workers have already started celebrating the victory of their candidate.

Earlier, polling in the provincial constituency PP-107 concluded at all the 154 polling stations amid violent scuffles between PML-N and PTI cohorts, blatant display of firearms, polling staff torture, and whatnot.


Reportedly, at one polling station, PML-N and PTI female workers tussled over allegations of casting fake votes with a ferocity that shamed all the men around them.


In another incident some PTI workers not only blocked the passage but also gave their anger a vent by kicking and punching a car, which was packed with PML-N’s women voters.


According to sources, the local PTI leaders alleged that PML-N’s female supporters were caught casting fake votes red-handed. They also said that the vehicle, those female workers were traveling in, was loaded with spurious ballots.


However, security personnel arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control, but hostilities died hard at other polling stations.

A presiding officer at Polling Station # 60 was manhandled by some rowdy PML-N workers. Following the mishap, the voting was suspending for some time, but resumed shortly.


Presiding Officer (PO) Altaf Hussain told Samaa that PML-N workers had tortured him at the behest of their MPA.


PML-N MPA Asadullah Arain and MPA Salma Butt also narrowly escaped an angry PTI supporters’ mob.


PP-107 was lying vacant since the disqualification of Shoaib Shahnawaz, an independent candidate.
