I don't understand the logic behind division of Punjab only for better administration, aren't other provinces suffering as well? And in KPK addition is being done instead of division .

Karachiites have been calling for a separate province for the last 40 years.

2) This will generate more power for PML-N in central belt ..They will get more vote more to avoid this.

We aren't rich country to afford luxurious of one more Chief minister and his cabinet. We should eliminate the provincial assemblies altogether, elevate and improve local bodies system to division level with mayor of division being Administrator of division assisted by Town/City Nazims. Only National assembly and senate is enough to do legislation.

I always found the provinces totally unnecessary rather counter productive and inefficient structures

I like the idea presented by some members above.

1. Dissolve all provinces
2. Remove all electoral constituencies. Parliamentarians should be elected from each districts.
3. Have a 4 tier govt system, 1. Federal, 2. Division, 3. Districts, 4. Tehsils
4. Only Federal govt can make legislation.
5. Get rid of the Senate

here in norway we have 18 fylker(counties) and 426 kommunes.

pakistan should either have many provinces and strong govt, or less or no provinces but a centralised strong govt like turkey is getting.

What I'm referring to is the Swedish model. There used to be provinces in Sweden and those still exist in history books and for certain geographical zonings but they have no function or power. Here we have lans and communes that are responsible for running the day to day life in the cities, towns and villages
with powers to levy taxes with the guidelines set by the central government (Riksdag that sits in Stockholm). We have 290 municipalities (kommunes), 20 counties (Läns), and a central government and the population of Sweden is 10 million.

but stortinget(parliament) has said that they will reduce it to 356 before 2020. a fact is taht in 1930 norway had 744 kommuner
