PTCL upgrades Ufone
Karachi: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited has upgraded network of its cellular phone company, Ufone, in ten major cities of the country for providing services of 3G technology to its customer.
The leading telecom company of the country has prepared all out strategy to roll out 3G services on its network in the past one year, now waiting for license auction likely to be held in the coming months.
PTCL was the one of the companies that submitted expression of interest for acquiring 3G license for its cellular phone company, a 100 percent owned subsidiary, as the auction was announced first time in March.
Being cognizant of envisaged enhanced bandwidth requirements post 3G auction in the country and to reap the benefits of this opportunity, official sources said.
PTCL is boosting its backhauling capabilities through national Fiber BTS Backhaul project as it understands the transformation of global telecom sector from Minutes to Bytes, sources added.
Towards this end, it has already deployed a fiber backhaul solution for Ufone BTS sites in 10 major cities resolving the existing drS bandwidth choking issues thus resulting in increased revenues.
PTCL has invested heavily in infrastructure and technology sector and is inthe process of transforming its microwave backhaul to IP technology to meet high bandwidth requirements of 3G/4G networks.
At present, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is in the process of hiring a technical consultant for transparent auction of 3G license however there is no guarantee or time limit about the auction of license particularly in the regime of present government.
Almost all existing cellular phone operators are interested to acquire 3G license though the number of license are four against five operators providing cellular services to their customers.
