The report states that Pakistani economy is moving ahead to even stronger points

LAHORE (Web Desk/AFP) – Bloomberg has termed Pakistan Stock Exchange the best of the Asian markets in a report stating that it has regained ‘tiger’ status in the region with 15 percent rise and increasing rate of annual growth, reported Wednesday.

The report states that Pakistani economy is moving ahead to even stronger points with stable output.

Reforms in privatization programme and better relations with International Monetary Fund have strengthened Pakistan’s economy. According to the report, inclusion of Pakistan in countries with Emerging Markets status would immensely increase foreign investment.

Meanwhile, foreign investors are looking at rewarding outlook in Pakistan after Chinese investment of $46 billion under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Bloomberg states that transnational investors are considering Pakistan the best market for gains after reduced performance by Chinese economy and interest rates in the United States.

Pakistan was downgraded to frontier status in December 2008, four months after the Karachi Stock Exchange imposed a rule that caused near total paralysis of market activity for more than three months.

MSCI’s Frontier Markets Index currently features 16 Pakistani companies that make up about 9 percent of the gauge.

The Karachi Stock Exchange KSE100 Index has gained 15 percent this year, making it the best performer in Asia.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif averted an external payments crisis in 2013 through a loan programme of the International Monetary Fund and is dedicated to boost the economy to its fastest pace of the decade, according to the report.

looks like this government is doing good. much better then the previous one. so why is it that people complain of of them being currupt. aren't most of them currupt in the world? i think another term would be good how long is a pm's term in pakistan?

Exactly, despite how much we hate PML N (Nawaz Government) they have certainly brought good economic reforms. Under this government things are getting better Thanks to COAS for Zarb-e-Azb as well which has taken good care of law and order situation. We should allow every party to complete their tenure but then there are people like Imran Khan, Tahir Ul Qadri and other opportunists who want to bring anarchy to this country for personal gains. Yes, PML N is no saint they should be tried for all corruption charges but they should be allowed to complete their tenure.

Certainly better then the last government. I am not sure you will find many who will disagree with this. The thing that the people cry about is for how long are we supposed to choose from the worst and select the least worst? They call this government because of the countless allegations backed by proof of there corruption. Personally, i feel that the government should complete this term, still there are around 2 years left so that is enough time to judge there performance. The worst part of the crisis is over already and if the government can show some real progress in terms of GDP growth rate, progressive economic reforms, diplomacy and foreign policy and the there attitude towards the general public and its cries i for sure will happily vote for them. Unfortunately the last three years have not shown any real signs of progress on any of these fronts and i am not sure how much we can count on stock exchange growth as a scale for real economic progress. For me, the security problem (that was the main concern a few years back) is being handled professionally. The next two things for me are economy and diplomacy with us being real 5hit at the second one! Need to improve it and do so in months.

Oh and the PM's term is 5 years, at least legally it is so. :)

Probably we should tag Sir @niaz , he supports this government and opposes PTI so he can give the other narrative as well. :)

Pakistan's stock market is a great success story. It's been doing well these past couple years. Hopefully more of the world will take notice and invest.

@shah1398

Realistically stock performance are just one of many indicators of economy. As a matter of fact Stocks actually reflect on how investors see the future of an economy. For instance if investors are investing more in stocks then it means they are expecting the future price of their shares to go up and that is why they are buying those shares on low price. Nonetheless it necessarily does not reflect much about the current state of the economy. For example our economy right now might not be that good but due to CPEC we foresee jump in field of infrastructure etc. So it means that Cement sector is just like hot selling Potato. For Cement sector to produce more, they ll take more loans from banks so indirectly Banks are also a lucrative side. But there are lot more many industries/sectors which might not be doing that well. So like i said Stocks are reflection of just one aspect of economy.

After the catastrophic performance of last Govt of PPP, nothing more bad could have happened. Though Pakistanis (ofcourse not all) still grade the current Govt as corrupt but I wud admit that they are not that much bad as PPP and Zardari were. Other than the steps taken by Govt for the improvement of economy, one major factor was successful Ops against bad guys esp in Karachi (which minimized the losses to economy due to bad law and order situation), lower oil prices, CPEC, turmoil in ME (which resulted in shifting of some investment to Pakistan esp from overseas Pakistanis in real estate sector), increased remittance from Overseas Pakistanis (again majority chunk is from ME) etc. And yes I agree with U that there is no Govt in whole world who is not corrupt at all. Corruption is everywhere, only modus of operandi is different in different part of the world.

you must give credit to NS who choose a Professional soldier General Raheel sharif, as a Army cheif, and we also hope NS will also choose next Army chief on his professional Attitude.

Compared to the last ones, even if we do not consider that "pretty FM" this team is better. No arguments there. One thing that might stop one from voting these ten times again is other option coming in the picture OR people just being fed up of choosing the least worst of all rather than an actual good option!
Power problem is what is effecting economy as well, it is just a factor although a big one so that is why i mentioned economy overall rather then emphasizing on power sector. Diplomacy and foreign policy is another aspect this current government have really let us down. In fact, this is one thing that is even worst now than it was under last government and trust me, that is something pretty hard to do. Beating THEM at something bad takes quite an effort (or complete lack of it) and this government have done exactly that. We are being left alone and isolated and do not see much happening to counter that. These two problems need to be addressed and if done it will have quite significant positive effect. I for one will surely vote for them if i can see any progress being made regarding these two things.

Only thing that worries me is that if we go by the way it have been for past three years, it seems the next two won’t be much different. It feels as they do not even understand the importance of all this.AND if they do, then they are guilty of criminal negligence!

indeed........ you think if you can the current fm for the previous one?

the economy is the biggest problem but somthing even bigger is tax collection if people dont pay taxes how do they expect the govenment toto change the country and yet theres more pakistani money abroad then what the entire coutry. offshore accounts is worth over $300 billion!!! pakistan entire gdp is about $285 billion.
and people complain that the government is currupt if the people change then so do the government. sure they will be the bad cookies but thats everywhere. heck in 20 years time or so that malala character wants to be pm.
and we are brainwashing her with western ideaologies same sex marrage, gender equality, equal rights, abolishing capital punishment, a party of the people (or so she thinks) the kind of stuff that would make most pakistani's faint even on hearing such news.

@shah1398
Stock market is a reflection of A-Business confidence B-Country Risk C-Corporate outlook.
Business and econmoc confidence is certainly on the rise as we saw two consecutive years of Eid retail spending yeilding historic volume. Tourists flooded the places on Eid which means people are more upbeat but the state of the economy and more importantly middle class is growing. Middle class is the magnet for growth. So now you see European companies like Friesland and coming back to Pakistan and Nestle expanding after decades of drought of Foreign companies coming into Pakistan. Things are good and If the government is able to resolve the energy crisis before 2018, they seem all set for a comeback.

Compared to the last ones, even if we do not consider that "pretty FM" this team is better. No arguments there. Diplomacy? You mean destroying Afghanistan,India and US. They all have trust issues with only one institution.

No diplomacy, i mean not having to choose between Iran or Saudia, Yemen or gulf countries, Russia or Turkey, China or America. I don't some sane head to be able to talk there way out of 5hitty situations we find ourselves over and over again.

To change the policy, the "premier institution" needs to change its mindset which has been driving us into a corner again and again. Or at least learn from their time trusted friend I.e. China whose largest trading partner is Japan, a nation who inflicted inhuman atrocities to such scale that Chinese havent yet forgotten.
