The Army isn’t just an establishment, it is a group of men who have sworn to protect the freedom of their countrymen and their land for almost nothing in return. It is the unwavering strength, resilience in the face of the enemy and the willingness to sacrifice everything a man holds dear to him that earns the Army respect from the masses.

For the men giving their lives to ensure our borders remain fenced against any mischief makers and terrorists, criticism is not new. In fact, the criticism against military establishment and its role in a country has been the subject of debate since long. Ever since the social media age has taken over, this criticism has become dangerously common.

The increasing ease of access to virtual social platforms has allowed those who bear nothing but ill will for our country and its establishment to push their biased narrative, sometimes behind a cover. This has given rise to a growing number of “liberals” and “activists” who consistently try to malign the army and anyone who speaks in its favor.

While most of these said persons are called out for their propaganda by the common patriotic man/woman who sees through their sob stories and poorly crafted propaganda, there are far more sinister designs in place.

With social media came 5th Generation Warfare, a virtual war of minds. Simply put, those who are opposed to the idea and existence of Pakistan have sought the help of social media to try and change the perceptions of the Pakistani public against the state institutions and army in an attempt to weaken our country. It is this attempt that many simple-minded unsuspecting people have fallen prey to, the outcomes of which are dangerous for the sovereignty of our country.

It can be observed that a number of journalists, activists and other sub-nationalist proxies have been working on a unified agenda to malign the armed forces of Pakistan by falsely accusing them of illusionary mass disappearances, oppression and murders of Pashtun and Balochi people when the truth is that the soldiers laid their lives to protect and restore the peace in those areas by condcuting operations like Zarb-e-Azab and Operation Radul-Fasad

What no one questions or realizes is that, without a form of protection in place, Pakistan is in a very vulnerable position geographically and strategically. There are menacing neighbouring countries like India and Afghanistan who were not only opposed to the idea of the creation of our country but have over the years provided miscreants and terrorists breeding grounds and facilitation to wreak havoc in Pakistan.

Countries like Syria and Iraq are examples of the fate of a nation without an institution in place to protect it. The military establishment acts as a deterrence for those with malicious intentions and earns nation respect from others. When a strong military stands behind the government body of a country, the international community takes it seriously. Without an Army to protect it, nations become victims to the aspiration of those who do.

The wave of terrorism that had gripped Pakistan for over a decade only came to an end with the intervention of the army. The common man was just not equipped to deal with the menacing threats of terrorist organizations. The Taliban, Daesh and ISIS, were learning and evolving with every attempt to curb them. It was the Army that kept these terrorists at bay, and then finally put a foot down, eradicating them from our lands. Even when the political leadership of the country actively worked against the military for its personal gains, the military did not lose ground and stood square in front of the ill-wishers of Pakistan.

When liberals, activist and critics of the army try to malign the establishment sitting comfortably within their air-conditioned homes, they should be questioned about what they have done for this country. Most of them have not lived in Pakistan for a majority part of their lives but feel qualified to give their opinion about how the country and it’s establishment should operate.

The truth is, by fueling the anti-army fire in Pakistan, these people have done worse damage to the country than its enemies could. Their over-simplistic explanations that they are only speaking their mind about what they feel is a smokescreen for their very real intentions to hurt Pakistan at the behest of who may be. Their open collusion with dubious persons and organizations that work against the interest of Pakistan should be enough evidence to serve as an eye-opener.

Yet, the simplicity of the people of our nation is that when someone questions the army, we are happy to make culprits out of our brave men. However, when the criticism is turned around towards these “common” men, they are accepted as victims, no questions asked.

The fight for this country was a hard one, the fight to protect it has become harder. Pakistan needs the army more than ever since international pressure and enemy aspirations to break our country have become stronger. Without standing beside and behind our uniformed men, we cannot win this war. No activist, no liberal, no journalist will give his/her life to protect Pakistan, its land and its people. But the army will, its officers and soldiers will, their families will!!!!!

We need to look past the propaganda and smear campaign propagated on social media, we need to question the veracity of the accusations and the accuser of our Army. We need to stand by it because we owe every living breathing moment of freedom to our army men and their selfless sacrifices for us.

I am against the idea of blanket immunity for any institution or any individual in Pakistan.

I say this with all the regards to sacrifices and hardships Pakistan forces and their men have to go thru, those are unmatchable indeed, but this doesn't give anyone a right in these institutions to operate beyond their constitutional role. Simply put don't provide enemy the excuses to misguide your people.

my friend...when the evil intentioned find loop holes in the law and constitution to raise hell...the silent ones with no names in the shadows from the forces WILL spring into action and do what they do best...and we all know what that is. Don't forget, their loyalties belong to the NATION, not to the law nor the constitution.

@Aniqa_Sheikh_92, what you said was spot on...but what drove you to write this?

This still doesn't warrant blanket immunity, either everyone follows constitution or that constitution lollipop stops being fed every now and then to common people. Who does what .... had it been for the love of nation, Pakistan won't be going thru what we are actually going thru now.

Agreed on blanket immunity and there is no such blanket immunity in the constitution for any person or institution ANYWAY. Having said that...let's face it, what we are going through now is, in fact, the result of those loop holes I mentioned...

President and co enjoy blanket immunity so much so that they can waive punishments awarded by courts.

Yeah but the president doesn't really have any powers, waiving punishments is probably the only power worthy of mention that he has.

At least you should have better opening sentence. They are paid handsome amount of money and do granted other perks also.

No activist, no liberal, no journalist will give his/her life to protect Pakistan, its land and its people. But the army will, its officers and soldiers will, their families will!!!!!
No activist, liberal or journalist is empowered to do that by state either.

The wave of terrorism that had gripped Pakistan for over a decade only came to an end with the intervention of the army.
Please don't spread lies.

When a strong military stands behind the government body of a country, the international community takes it seriously.

If no due action has been taken against such peoples,it's merely a smear campaign. You shouldn't forget all of this started in 2000.

.
Role of the army is to protect the country against both external and internal threats and you certainly have to appreciate their sacrifices in this regard however at the same time it's not the job of the army to poke it's nose or directly involve itself in politics like the way Pakistani army is doing. They seriously need to give democracy a chance

no ones disrespect or discredit sacrifices made by Armed forces but does that give them immunity from law? how is asif zardari murdering and looting and grabbing land different from Army doing the same?

how is a pvt contractor made accountable if quality of his work is sub standard but FWO js above the law and no one can question them?

how is musharaf a lesser criminal than zardari when he armed mqm that killed hundreds of Pakistanis a day but courts are helpless and cant try him!!

there are many such examples when people see armed forces going the same route as politicians when they see Injustice being done by the only institution they had faith in they have every right to complain!
