KARACHI, Pakistan — A suicide attacker detonated a bomb near the home of a prominent Shiite Muslim cleric in this southern Pakistan city on Friday, killing him and one of his relatives, police said.

A guard of the cleric, Allama Hassan Turabi, was also seriously hurt in the blast that shook downtown Karachi, said Manzoor Mughal, a senior police investigator. The attacker was also killed, he said.

Mughal said Turabi died of his injuries at a hospital. Dr. Abdul Rashid at the private Patel Hospital confirmed the cleric's death.

Turabi had narrowly escaped another attempt on his life in April, and his killing will raise sectarian tensions in Karachi, which has often been the scene of clashes between rival Shiite and Sunni Muslims.

Allama Turabi was critically injured and succumbed to injuries at Patel hospital.

The incident occurred when the suicide bomber blew himself up outside the residence of Allama Hassan Turabi at Abbas Town soon after Allama Turabi got off his jeep and was going home.

This could definitely be a move to divert our attention from the killings of hundreds of Muslims in Palestine, Lebanon and a possible threat of war to Syria. This is to disrupt the peace we had and get us busy with our internal issues.

People are already on the streets but they are chanting anti US and Israel slogans

.
He was killed along with his nephew when he was just returning from an anti-Israel rally.

Its sad how some elements are again out start a sectarian clash and disturb the peace.

.
Agreed Pa jee
its sad that some vested elements want to start a sectarin violence again just when we are having bomb blasts in our neighbourhood and when the Muslims are being encrilced in the ME and scoers killing daily in Iraq and Afghanistan and Iran is also at gun point.

Atleast we need unity.

them bastards don't waste much time when it comes to jumping to conclusions they didn't waste any in getting retribution either. I hope Pakistanis aren't stupid to give into sectarian violence.

.

KARACHI: International secret agencies (ISG) who had links with the local forces were behind the assassination of Allama Hasan Turabi, disclosed close aides of the Maulana to The News on condition of anonymity. As a matter of fact, they said, these forces were involved in eliminating Islamic forces from the country since the last two to three years and had succeeded in eliminating them.

This was evident from the fact that despite repeated demands, the Maulana was not provided with the required security guards for his safety, as on several occasion, anonymous callers, had hurled life threats at him and on one occasion made an attempt on his life but failed. Finally, he said, when the Allama was on his way home after delivering a hard-hitting speech against Israel’s latest aggression against Lebanon, he was done to death right in front of his residence.

These agencies, he said wanted to divert public attention towards sectarian violence in the city, to conceal the real fact behind this tragic loss of life of the Allama of repute which he termed an, “ intrigue at international level’ and, ‘international game’ being played along with domestic actors, the source said.

The major factor behind this ghastly drama being played by international secret agencies along with the support of local elements that wanted to sabotage peace of the city, sources alleged, was to convey the message to international religious figures, to count down their Islamic notions and beware the “changing international scenario”, especially with regard to the Muslim world.

The government, the source confided to this correspondent, under the garb of “enlightened moderation”, was playing a dangerous game of purging what the west considered extremism from the country. The Maulana, in his last speech, had categorically made it clear to the Zionist forces that they would not capitulate to their bullying and would continue fighting these forces for the sake of the rule of divine law. He continued with his speech against the US and Israel and was targeted just few hours.

It was further disclosed that the Pakistan-based elements who had links with the international secret agencies were the main forces in this whole incidents as reportedly, the government was pressurised by certain quarters to impose ban on activities of the so-called extremists, political or religious.

It was also disclosed that Allama was on the hit list for which he himself reportedly, informed the concerned quarters for his safety precautions but the authorities did not pay heed and were now issuing hollow statements of giving cash rewards to those who would identify the head of suicide bomber, which, they said, wais just an eye-wash and to pacify the people for the growing incidents of terrorism.

Good post Neo would you please mind posting it there also and all national members kindaly play ur role in safegaurding the country atleast post Above news on all forums you are as members.

The real motive behind this murder was to start sectarian violence in the country by vested elements.

They wanted to show it as some sectarian outfits were involved in it although its seemingly the handywork of those working to create problems in Paksitan.
One can not ignore the fact that the incident occured after deadly blasts in India.

Are you really this naive or you are acting like one?? This Shia dude was targetted even before once, and the police is supsecting on LeJ and all of a sudden you bring in Indian blasts in to this.

If Pakistan has a motive for secretarian violence in India, prolly India would have had the same. You pick it ;)

Its nothing new, we've seen this before haven't we bro? ;)

Yep, nothing new, I guess.

I see Jana going on every thread talking about vile Indian publication for linking Pakistan to the Mumbai bombings, but she also jumped quickly in linking India to the Pakistani bombing, give me break, I say :idiot:

.
Well you only receive the attitude you beget I'd say. India should've been more cautious in blaming Pakistan for Mumbai bombings; its only tit-for-tat if people start blaming India now for the killing of this prominent cleric.

I think Neo does a good job in showing of the moderate face of Paksitan unlike other pakistani members who speak about global peace and brotherhood but pull their triger on the slightest provocation.

Foreign or domestic they succeeded in it.It did incite communal violonce as in the previous cases of bomb blasts.

It looks like its easier to incite violonce between a shite and sunni in pakistan than a hindu and a muslim in india. There were no riots even after temples were bombed in India.See learn a lesson from your brothers across the borders.
