Probing 'Hindu terror' cases: Why NIA remains clueless

Despite leads, the NIA has failed to achieve any breakthrough in the 'Hindu terror' cases. Vicky Nanjappa tells you why.

It is a fact that the acts of terrorism from Nanded to Malegaon were all inter-linked. Although a different set of individuals carried out the attacks, the fact remains that the entire operation emerged from one module.

The National Investigation Agency has ascertained that the ammunition for the blasts in Nanded, Modasa, Samjautha Express, Ajmer, Malegaon and Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad were all procured from Mhow in Madhya Pradesh.

The NIA has many suspects in custody; but there are others who are absconding. It has been almost a year since the NIA was handed over the charge for the above mentioned cases, but there appears to be something wrong with the manner in which the probe is taking place as there is no concrete breakthrough yet.

The NIA probe into cases involving 'Hindu extremists' went wrong from day one. The Nanded blasts, which is considered to be the mother of these acts of terror, was badly investigated, making it tough for NIA sleuths to make a start.

Today the NIA faces the herculean task of cracking all these cases which are inter-linked. Sources in the agency told rediff.com that the foundation of the case itself is extremely weak, which is why they are finding it hard to give it closure.

There are leads in every case, the sources added, but in none of them have NIA detectives achieved a breakthrough.

The NIA confronts problems of inadequate manpower as well as evidence that has either been lost or destroyed.

Take for example the Modasa and Malegaon blasts -- it has just two officers on the job. The Ajmer blasts case, on the other hand, does not have a leader at the moment as three officers have stepped out due to personal reasons.

Under media pressure, they catch some guys who are acquitted by the courts for lack of evidence. What happened to the Parliament attack case? That joker is still alive and not hanged yet. Mr Kasab is still enjoying our hospitality, sitting on his a$$ and giving us the finger. So Mr Dawood Ibrahim is an honoured guest of the Pakistani govt and therefore not available for questioning, how very convenient.

Completely agreed, it is a publicity stunt by congrassi govt to appease muslims and christians and also aid their influence in the society. Infact, they are now coming up with a "communal bill" in which hindu saints and sages can be jailed for pravachans. I wonder what will be done to the non stop barking of zakir naik??

actually one can,appeasement can go to any lengths when it comes to "minorities".That's why today's history textbooks dont mention how many sikh and hindu women were killed and raped by the great akbar, and how many saints and sages were butchered for a simple reason of having a different religion, that too in their own country (height of hypocrisy eh??). My dear, It's ok to be liberal but if you are ready to overlook facts for fiction, you would be the only one who would be kicked around...

Wait and watch, many hindu orgs are negotiating in this and are protesting although I don't believe congis have balls to do such a thing as far as minority appeasement is concerned... give me a few minutes, I will give as many claims as possible

Well BJP claims that the Communal Violence Prevention Bill puts all blame on the majority community (in most cases Hindus), no matter who starts the violence.

I didn't ask for claims, I asked for credible sources to backup that claim of yours. If you don't have those, you shouldn't be spewing paranoid conspiracy theories that pit various religious groups against each other.

the most communal part of the communal bill is its definition of the word "group".

go research about it...

hint: only a minority is classified as a group...hindus are not classified as among the group of people who are liable to suffer due to communal riots...

Thats not the bill he was talking about. What you are referring to is a bill in which the majority community in a riot would be looked upon with suspicion with default - which is quite problematic. What he claims is that there is an UPCOMING bill that would arrest hindu saints and sages for pravachans. That is the part I want substantiated.

I believe that it is harmful to throw about patently false claims like this to malign political parties or individuals that you don't like. It gives everyone a skewed notion of the real political climate of the country.

I am talking about the same bill, when Hindus die, it is done by a single person, but when muslims die an entire community/religion is blacklisted.. why such discrimination? that too on our own land??

You are backtracking on your claim. You said that there is an upcoming bill by which hindu saints and sages can be jailed for pravachans. Scroll up and see post number 3 that you wrote. In future, kindly do not make up false claims like that on an international forum (or anywhere else) if you can't back it up.

It hurts the democratic process when people spread false accusations about their political opponents. That is the reason that I am making this point.

its not just "problematic"...it will only further alienate the hindus from the rest (muslims and christians)....and the intention of the quite clear..it starts with the assumption that only hindus start riots (which is not quite true when you look at the past history of riots in india), proceeds with the same assumption and ends with the same assumption....

its one of the most communal bills ever drafted, but its no surprise coming from a motley group of minority leaders,leftists and headed by the congress chairperson...
