Let the universities get involved and drive this.

This is sutherlands here. Similar climate to Baluchistan. Then in the Kalahari is the massive SKA radio astronomy complex.

Just look at all the projects underway at MeerKAT; that brings in huge funds.

My lecturer Justin 27 yrs back; now professor's brain child is Meerkat/SKA.

I am associated with a uni and we had something going on but now the uni can hardly afford to pay salaries.

Still work can be carried out as student projects - astronomy societies and club meetings. We resurrected an 100 yr old 18" scope; 300 kg base plate/ 100kg x 2 side plates; created a society which i believe continues to go on as Astonomers without Borders.
We were fortunate, we had two professors who were mapping the southern skies and measuring ionosphere daily via automated ranging system which i helped build - basic ranging transceiver fixed frequencies from 1900khz up to 100Mhz. 15 doctorates in this field were given; most landed up going to MeerKat + SKA project.

TOnnes of papers and research coming from Meerkat which you can see. All this from a group that started this interest and others just followed in their footsteps and took it further along. Noone could have imagined MeerKat or SKA but my friend had this notion to pursue it further.

Unfortunately it seems there is no interest in astronomy. But maybe in future if Pakistan go on development’s path.

whenever I look at sky in the night and see all the stars and think about the distances then I say thank God there are more than 6 billions humans with me on this earth 😉

thanks to have named the tool of our specialists
I think you will find there is a lot of interest amongst the children; that is where it needs to take hold of. Use the scriptures and you will see interest. Especially when you tell them so many stars/constellations have arabic names to them. To narrate Uglug Beg's astronomy work - his calculations remained at the forefornt for many years.

Of biggest significance is his calculation of tropical year.

Science should not « nationalized » or « racialised ».

Science is for all humanity. And as I’m teaching them to be open minded, respectful of everyone, I will try to show them scientists and their discoveries from every countries. 😉

Absolutely, what i meant was if you give the imputus that this is nothing new but was worked upon earlier vs just purely from western ideas, it gives youth a confidence level to say we too were leaders once, nothing to stop us if we tried

Well some work is going on in SUPARCO and their institute. Its just limited, maybe students dont see much scope in Pakistan. Funding for basic stuff is scarce, can hardly manage salaries. Govt needs to give it some attention. SUPARCO is not doing bad actually, mostly backed and funded by military.

Hopefully, Pak is ultimately getting serious with the space domain. ...
No it's not since the current PTI Government took over.

2013: iCUBE-1
2018: PakSat MM'I' (AsiaSat 4)
2018: PRSS-1
2018: PakTES-1 Alpha
2018: PakSat-MM'1'

2019: PNSS-1 - not launched
2???: PakTES-1B
2???: iCUBE-2

That is a shame; here we have deep involvement from many countries; plus huge govt funding for Meetkat/SKA. That is the challenge - to change the mindset and let them get involve. The issue I see is too many military projects but nothing on for the education of the masses.

You can browse this: There are multiple projects underway culminating in Square Kilometer Array which will be tied into Australia network.

Within over 400km radius, you cannot use various radio or other gadgets due to the sensitivity of the experiments.

Just click on the student projects on the link for MSc/Doctorate/Post Doctorate levels. So many projects with huge potential for application elsewhere eg. interference detector/locator etc - immediately i see this applicable within EW or any RF radar R&D etc.
