The fifth generation fighter jet to be a twin-seat jet, instead of the single-seat layout of the PAK-FA.

Russian and Indian engineers have completed the preliminary design for the export version of the fifth generation fighter jet – the PAK-FA, announced Andrey Marshankin, Regional Director for International Cooperation of the United Aircraft Corporation.

“At the moment, together with our Indian colleagues, we have finished creating an export version of the PAK-FA, known in India as the FGFA. All the documentation is now ready, and we have an understanding of the amount of work that will be required for the next design phase, and the scale of the future series production,” he said.

Mr. Marshankin also noted that while only one pilot operates the Russian version of the fifth generation fighter jet, the Indian Air Force traditionally prefers aircraft operated by two pilots, writes RIA Novosti, citing the Russian News Service.

“In the difficult conditions of modern warfare, it is extremely difficult to simultaneously maneuver a fighter jet and fire on the enemy. For now, the Indian side insists that their version of the fifth generation fighter must be made for two pilots,” he said.

In September, Russia and India were able to resolve the problematic issues on the draft design of the fifth generation fighter, having also agreed to build 200 aircraft worth about $30 billion.

President of Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) Mikhail Pogosyan said in November, that FGFA project is among top priority projects for Russia. “The projects of a fifth generation fighter jet and a military transport plane reflect our strategy on creating present-day high-tech products in cooperation with our partners,” Pogosyan said.

The FGFA project began following a Russian-Indian agreement on cooperation in the development and production of the perspective multirole fighter, signed on October 18, 2007.

The Indian fighter jet will be based on the Russian single-seat PAK-FA fifth-generation fighter or Sukhoi T-50, but it will be designed to meet about 50 specific requirements by the Indian Air Force.

Here is the precursor to the preliminary design.
An enumeration of all the changes or an analysis of its aeronautical envelop would be appreciated.

why members are creating multiple threads ..on same topic ?

why you guys do not check if there is already pre existing thread or no ?

it will be better that we exercise some self discipline

and post replies in same thread rather than blindly go on creating multiple threads on same topic .

@Lord Zen @greatone

you can post in following thread
Ruussia , India agree FGFA preliminary design

@Oscar

please don't take it personally .

I wanted to say this for long time .

Many people just keep on creating threads ..they don't see below that the similar thread exists in rush to post exciting news . I can understand why it happens . My point is that creating multiple threads on same topic defeats the purpose of thread - which is basically greater discussion . Thanks .

project is dead slow!!! when are we getting the first prototype???

.
First they decided twin seat then, single then again twin.......... then it will be tripe seater then it will without any seat........... BS at its best.

They are just negotiating for last 10 years but still those losers could not complete even preliminary design!!!

This news is from 2005 when Pranab Mukherjee was defence minister...........

Speaking at a joint press conference, Mukherjee said India will take part in the development and financing of a fifth generation super fighter aircraft project with Russia.
"We exchanged views. Active contacts are going on with Russian side. Our air force is in contact with their Russian counterpart, HAL and Sukhoi Corporation are talking on manufacturing aspects.

"We are keen on taking part in the development and financing of the fifth generation fighter," Mukherjee said.
He also announced that Russia's Defence Ministry has agreed to provide access to the Russian GLONASS global navigational satellite system for military application to India, an alternative to Pentagon-controlled US Global Positioning System (GPS).

The two ministers earlier signed the protocol of the fifth session of Indo-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-MTC) as its co-chairmen.

Mukherjee also announced that the vexed issue of IPR has been resolved and the agreement will be signed during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Moscow visit next month.

Ivanov said the signing of IPR agreement will open new vistas for cooperation in most sensitive futuristic technologies.

The situation of MTA is worse.

India Fast Tracks 5th Generation Fighter Jet Project With Russia

The 5th Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) being jointly developed by India and Russia is based on the Sukhoi T-50.
NEW DELHI: India and Russia on Wednesday agreed to speed up work and iron out hurdles that are holding up the co-production and co-designing of a 5th Generation Fighter Aircraft.

The two nations had in 2012 agreed to jointly design and produce the next generation fighters. Both countries are scheduled to spend US $5.5 billion each towards the cost of designing, infrastructure build-up, prototype development and flight testing. But the UPA Government had failed to operationalise the project.

The decision to fast-track the programme was done in a bilateral meeting between Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and his Russian counterpart, Sergei Shoigu, at the 14th Meeting of the Indian-Russian Inter-Governmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation, which took place in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting in New Delhi, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said, "We have decided to fast-track many of the issues."

However, the 5th generation fighter being built for the Russian Air Force is already being flight tested in Russia and India has suggested that a fresh Research and Development (R&D) contract would be a waste of time and resources.

Russia has already built five-prototypes in single pilot version. The Indian version is a two-seater, which will acomodate one pilot and a co-pilot who will function as a Weapon Systems Operator (WSO).

Mr Parrikar has also told Russia that India wants the stealth fighter jet to be inducted into the Indian Air Force much before 2024-25 - the date that was fixed for delivery. India plans to build as many as 127 fighters at the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited facility in Nashik. The Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) project is estimated to cost $25 billion.

Besides, the two sides have agreed that India will now exchange all information about flight safety protocols being followed on Russian platforms - fighter jets, helicopters and the transport planes - flown by the Indian Air Force.

This information exchange is crucial given the series of accidents in the Indian Air Force, including engine problems in India's mainstay fighter, the Sukhoi Su-30 MKI. Russia had also earlier contested India's claim that the pilot seats of the Su-30 ejected automatically during the last crash in October last year.
