LAHORE - The Pakistan People's Party has rejected a proposal of permission of Basant celebrations. In a statement on Sunday, PPP Lahore Information Secretary Abid Hussain Siddiqui urged the caretaker government that it should not allow Basant as it had become a dangerous and killer activity which took several lives in the past.

He said the PPP was not against sports activities but it could not support an activity which could cause deaths.

What a Rehman Malik logic you have. Dozens of people die daily because of careless drivers, Will you enforce traffic discipline or your suggestion will be same - ban the vehicles?

There have to be dedicated fields (maydaan) to minimize any chances of death.
And people should also behave responsibly when engaging in these fun-filled activities. Our streets are busier than ever and the houses are getting taller. A fall or running across the street can be life-threatening.

Basant has really become a killer sport. It shouldn't be allowed within populated areas. If it so necessary then areas outside city limits should be designated.

I personally knew a girl 4 year old who died after a string hanging in the middle of road ripped her throat. I know it is a tradition but it is a bad one. We should only hold on to traditions that are worth holding.
