Powering the Solar Revolution In Pakistan

We could have benefited from Large Hydro Project like water storage, Flood protection & Cheap electricity.

But State has even used hydro project against Pakistan.

Senselessly constructing run of river IPP projects in AK. Who is going to pay for those expensive electricity. People and even industries moving toward solar because your can't afford power tarrif which will go further high.

Ignoring the most important hydro project on Indus which will save us from floods from both Indus and Swat & Kabul river but also near load(will reduce distribution cost) & as Terbala 40% capacity is gone we need a storage downstream.

Instead we are going to build Dams Up North while power needed in central. Water flow is also less. adding cost in construction but also Distribution cost which we have to pay forever.

We are also building Small hydro projects in KP which make zero Sense. As North will have Surplus Power after Large Dams & Main Lines will pass through KP. So not only KP don't' need power But those small Project unit cost is too high with Zero benefits.
Govt of Pakistan could have build those dam with it own money if priorities were in order. Oil industry runs in a boom and bust cycle. 12 years ago, during boom Oil prices were almost $180/bbl and last year during bust WTI went into negative which means it was costing oil companies money just to hold oil in oil Tanker. When every there is boom cycle Pakistanis have been spending $10 to $15 billion dollars to buy foreign oil. During good years, same oil cost $5 to $7 billion. Which means all those years, instead of reducing prices, govt could have use extra $5 to $10 billion every year to fund dams.

$5 to $7 billion every year means Pakistan could have simultaneously build smaller and Maga dams with it own money. Without begging IMF, Chinese or compromise Dams design in Kashmir as run of river.

Now Pakistan is in circular debt due to IPPs and Chinese projects and loans. Oil prices are again in the rise. Situation is going to get very hard. Although Pakistan do have solar power potential, so does half of the world. Solar power simply doesn’t and can’t compete with large hydroelectric dams.

The major advantage of the solar system in a home is that it gives you the ability to produce power consistently when the sun is shining brightly and directly on your home. The power produced during this time is a lot more than the amount of power your home would use in this entire duration. What’s more, you can offset your costs by selling the excess amount of power to your local power company.
