Post-9/11, US sought India’s military help for Afghan ops

.
The war is ours.

It has always been ours.

Be it in Kargil, Khalistan, Mumbai, Kashmir or what not.

Because the key to squashing our insurgencies lay in the AfPak corridor.

That means you nothing about why the US economy is in the mess it is in.

Afghan war has nothing to do with the state of the US economy.

the Taliban are not bombing our cities or hurting our citizens thats like Germany sending 4 divisions into Peru to fight the communist guerillas over there

Kargil was different from Afghanistan fighting an insurgency that has nothing to do with us is in one word stupid not only that but imagine the time and money that it requires

dude i live here how would i not know? the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have resulted in massive war debt the same thing happened to us in Sri Lanka fighting the Tamil tigers the war debt f'd up our economy one of the reasons for the 1991 indian economic crisis

It was a bad move on our part I believe.

Even today I think we should grab the slightest opportunity to up our military presence in Afghanistan.

It will build a lot of pressure on the Pak military.

Good for us in the long run.

AT THAT TIME IT WAS A GOOD DECISION.

but situation has changed a lot in last 10 years. we must help Afgan people on the request of their government.
at present times we can send our forces to Afganistan to help ANA to fight terrorist, train them & equip them.

.
I think Indian leaders were wise to keep out of getting too close to america. I wish pakistani leaders had not been as forthcoming

we tried that in Sri Lanka and look what happened its best if we not get involved in a war that has nothing to do with us although us getting more strategic appetite would be better

war against terror has a lot to do with India. we are one of the worst hit by it.
LTTE & India at 1990's was a totally different game. our economy, experiance in fighting insurgens all has changed a lot.
sooner or later US will be leaving & Afgans wont be strong enough to fight alone. some one has to fill in the gap. if not India some body else will do it. worst part is if Pak again gains the control or even China can try that.
China definately dont want US to be in Afgan for ever. they will definately try & fill the gap.

I dont say take the security alone, I mean the total economic development with India frendly govt in Afgan.

Good move. Whilst I am all for an end to international terrorism I believe with hindsight we can all see that the war in Afghanistan has been expanded to the point where it is almost forgetting its original purpose. And had Indian troops been on the ground they would have been caught up inn this and not really helping. Also as hard as it is to believe it would probably have made India AN EVEN greater target for terrorists as all members of ISAF face serious security issues at home now as a result of their involvement in Afghanistan. Not to mention the added ramifications from Pakistan who are already so alarmed by Indian construction efforts and embassies in Afghanistan can you imagine their response to Indian boots on the ground. And it is likely as a result that Indian troops would perhaps become an even greater target than US forces (because of Pakistani involvement) and could suffer significant loss of life.

It is impressive that India continues to exert her sovereignty and independence consistently again and again (I believe similar requests were made by US for Indian help in Iraq) from enormous pressures placed upon her. It truly is a marvel and a dignified position unlike other countries like UK,Australia,NATO,Pakistan who have had to succumb to US pressure.

Very impressive that no matter what GOVT is in power this pillar remains, unabashed.

How exactly would it be the US' war?

It would be India's war.

...and do u seriously believe we are not at war already?

Shall I mail the pictures of the recent Delhi blast or the 26/11 attacks to you?

We ARE at war already. Wake up and smell the coffee, matey.
Come on matey are U living in dreams? What do the pictures of those blast going to prove huh? We are at war since 1947 and dont teach me that. Show some sense will U? What do U think the US army doing in Afghan? And why do U think that every NATO member wants to quit Afghan? What strategic leverage are U going to gain by losing bunch of few good soldiers everyday to IED's?

You misunderstand me.

I never said we should send battalions to Afganistan.

I said we should have a token presence just enough make the Pakistanis nervous and think twice before staging another Mumbai attack.

Its a good decision. Even without sending army/helping directly US, we have good influence there which are building lot of pressure on them.

Indians never seize to amaze me with their twisted and in this case complete false history.

i still remember it was India who offered its military and logistics support to US for attack on both Afghanistan & Pakistan and (for one reason or another) it was US who had declined the offer.

Just in case, if US had ever considered Indian offer.. it would have been a strategic suicide for both US & India.
