Pork or nothing: how school dinners are dividing France

Just offer two plates. One with mostly veg and other balanced or meat or whatever. Problem solved.

I don't know why people make it a point to antagonise each other.

Does it have anything to do with haggis? I used to love it when I was in scotland.

This blood sausages are just a ploy by the multi-national meat industry to make you eat everything. They are selling the waste also now.
Haggis is a savoury pudding containing sheep's pluck (heart, liver and lungs); minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, spices, and salt, mixed with stock, traditionally encased in the animal's stomach.

Blood sausages are sausages filled with blood that are cooked or dried and mixed with a filler until they are thick enough to congeal when cooled. The dish is found world-wide. Pig, cattle, sheep, duck, and goat blood can be used depending on different countries. In Europe and the Americas, typical fillers include meat (e.g. tongue), fat, suet, bread, cornmeal, onion, chestnuts, barley, and oatmeal. In Spain, Portugal, and Asia, potato is often replaced by rice. In Kenya fillers are fresh minced goat or beef, fat, and red onions.

Black pudding is the native British version of blood sausage.

These dishes are as old as butchering/slaughtering is.

How about vegan dishes ? I am sure there are a bunch of full vegan folks in europe ?

Another storm in the teacup so both fringes can have right "do" and then feel they have done their bit. Meantime I must admit I am partial to sausages ...

Trust me they are. Boiling pan, drip of teeny weeny sunflower oil, shallots, spring onion, slice of garlic to infuse with flavour, drip of lemon served with boiled spud ( baby ) with sprinkling of fresh coriander and you have three star meal that Roman Emperor would have blushed ...

And exactly how people does food threaten or unthreaten civilization .... ?

I never knew how it was prepared in first place :P

Could you believe I used to love haggis and absolutely hate eggs when I was a kid
I seen how it was made when i was a kid didn't want to touch it until my 20 xD same had with soft cheese it tasted nasty for me when i was a kid but now it tasts like heaven in mouth:)

I prefer white meat to red.
Though I crave for red meat in winters, about 5-6 times a year.

Men need meat period. Over the years I have tried differant diets so as to keep the weight down or at least add it at the right place and subtract at the wrong place. I notice with high carbo diet my belly starts popping out and arms and legs start getting skinny. No good. classic middle aged ugly pot belly look.

Then increase meat consumption ( red meat in moderation because you don't want your cholesterol profile to go awry ) reduce carbos and watch how belly shrinks, legs and arms swell out.

Of course some exercise is mandatory. Nothing is free in life. My nephew is on diet and has started pumping iron. I am his "drill sargent" and if I succeed in turning him into muscle I will try to get his permission to post here. He is already huge like 19 stone 6"1 inch but is plastered with bluuber which needs removing. He has huge bone structure so providing he shows the balls and discipline by next spring we should have hulk that I can use to scare some punks around here.

No meat is cheapest ;-) Fish is nice too.

How We Eat Meat Around The World - Business Insider

I'ld rather eat fewer and smaller portions but better quality meat (i.e. not 'factory-meat'), plus lots of fish.

Not everyone has your taste or shares your choices.

Pork is the cheapest meat in America when comparing to beef and lamb/veal/goat with the price difference being about $1.5+. Cafeterias typically buys large quantities of food, cost is an important factor to them.

Did I suggest everybody had or should have? No. So, what is your point. Price and quality are related. I'ld rather not eat cheap meat, because I know in what ways it is produced to make it cheap. But if you insist on a certain quantity, yeah, then price matters. What meats are cheap depends very much on where you are though.

Can't help but recall chicken being cheapest in the US.

Keep Islam,Christianity, and Judaism out of the public schools, the kids are given a lunch,if their beliefs tell them do not eat x or y,then do not simply eat it,you think the localities have time or even the money to make different lunch just to make a little minority happy?
You are boiling man take it easy.

You hate forigners to the limit that soon you going to get a heart attack.

any way Muslims should not eat all kind of meat that is not Halal meat.

yes we can....however, how hard would it be to be able to choose what you wish? Here in European country xyz they get to choose what they want on the plate...i think that is much more cost effective than throwing away meal which kids did not eat and calling them ungrateful?

Thank you for the clarification!
it is not about cost it is about laying arms it's hate in first place.

But still their country Muslims there should respect that it is not the end of the world if the kids don't eat in the school.

Plus as I know muslims shouldn't eat meat at all that is not Halal.

Religion has no place in public schools, why should we change everything just to make a minority happy ?
There arent soldiers behind every kid that threatens them to eat pork or they will be killed,if you cannot eat pork because of religion,or being vegetarian, then do not eat it. Is that difficult ?
It isnt the Republic that should adapt things for a minority....

Should not be a problem.
Muslims are not allowed to eat pork, but if they have to, it is OK.
God is a forgiving god.

All in the Qur'an, LOL.

No,Blood Sausage was on the Yule table already in the Viking era.
In the famous Viking Saga "Röde Orm" (Red Snake), Orm, the hero
has been away for a long long time, and when he comes back
to celebrate Yule at Harald Bluetooths court, the most important thing is the Blood Sausage.

The Scandinavian countries are unique that we do not celebrate Christmas.
We celebrate Yule which is right after the Winter Solstice.

In order to hi-jack Yule, the local christian Cardinal decided that Jesus Christ was borne during Yule,
and thus you celebrate Christmas in December.

It could be worse, they could force you to eat Lutefisk:

:o:
Norway-Lutefisk-01.jpg

Oh sure, it looks like any ordinary fish... but it's not:

From:
Norway.

What the hell is it?
Ahhh, Lutefisk. A clean, down-to-earth Scandinavian recipe.

A little too clean.

Lutefisk is a traditional Norwegian dish featuring cod that has been steeped for many days in a solution of lye, until its flesh is caustic enough to dissolve silver cutlery.

Wait, it gets worse ...
For those of you who don't know, lye (potassium hydroxide/sodium hydroxide) is a powerful industrial chemical used for cleaning drains, killing plants, de-budding cow horns, powering batteries and manufacturing biodiesel. Contact with lye can cause chemical burns, permanent scarring, blindness or total deliciousness, depending on whether you pour it onto a herring or your own face. Or, so the lutefisk industry would have us believe.

It is Nordic, because it is also a traditional christmas dish here.

While we are at it, we might want to introduce Rakørret and also the HEAVY ARTILLERY of
Nordic cooking: Surströmming (Sauerherring)

The way of opening a can of surströmming:

This years harvest: put the tin in a plastic bag, and open it with a can opener.
Previous years harvest: Like this years harvest, but immerse the plastic bag in a bucket of water when opening.
Older cans: Put can against a wall, and open it with a rifle at minimum 10 meters distance.

Under no circumstance, open a can indoors.
Surströmming is to be eaten outdoors.

The way to prepare surströmming is to bury a barrel in the ground for six months until it ferments
(Or like many people say, it rots).
Some people consider surströmming to be an especially vicious form of Weapon of Mass Destruction,
due to its smell.
