Because Stalin built many military factories in 1930s and as a consequence Soviet Union had more powerful defense industry and was capable of producing more weapons than the entire Nazi ruled Europe and also Soviet Union mobilized 34mln troops while Nazi Germany mobilized only 18mln troops.

Regarding Ukraine...This conflict starts to look like Iran-Iraq War of 1980s.

During the Iran-Iraq War, Iran had 3 times larger population than Iraq, but the entire world (USSR, USA, Europe, Arab World) supported Saddam, while Iran was in isolation.

Ukraine as a country is inferior to Russia in every aspect, but entire Western Civilization together with its clients in East Asia (Japan, South Korea) supports Ukraine providing it with money and weapons....as a consequence Russia can't win....Ukraine fully mobilized its entire population and the rich West pays for it, while Russia doesn't want to declare full mobilization and raise taxes.

Even if Russia declares full mobilization, defeating 700.000 troops of the Ukrainian military, that are heavily armed and fully financed by the entire West, will be possible only after unimaginable destruction of Eastern Ukraine and hundreds of thousands of casualties on both sides.....

If Russia wants to end this war on its terms and with minimum casualties, it has to enforce Ukrainian capitulation by nuclear strike, that will shock the West and force it to abandon its military support of Ukraine, while demoralizing Ukraine and forcing its President to accept a Peace Treaty on Russian terms....

The terms of the Peace Treaty that will be favourable to Russia will be a demilitarized zone OR Russian border along the Dnepr River. This River is 500m-30km wide and serves as a natural border and a barrier that can protect western borders of Russia in the long run.

But Russian President doesn't have the balls to use nuclear weapons for the purpose of ending this war as quickly as possible, on Russian terms and with minimum casualties on Russian side.....Instead he prefers to spend tens of billions of dollars on this war and tolerate 200.000 casualties while this war of attrition between the West/Ukraine and Russia can last for maybe another 4 years with even more casualties and costs and without any positive results for Russia.

You forgot two tiny things.

The nazis were fighting on multiple fronts. And the Russians had massive help in the form of weapons and supplies from allied forces, in particular the US and UK in the form of lend/lease programs.

Also, NATO has already said a nuclear strike would immediately result in a NATO intervention and NATO/US strikes against Russian forces on Ukrainian territory.

Finally, why would Ukraine even agree to such a thing when they have the momentum.

The Russians are fucked in the short, medium and long term. The Ukrainians have no reason to stop fighting.

The vast majority of Soviet military hardware used in Great Patriot War were Soviet made. While they did get some ex US air force P-39 which were phased out from US air force and some Sherman tanks, they accounted for less than 3% of Soviet military hardware.
