virus transport through air is short ranged transport. it can't cross over huge areas without people physically moving. quarantine the area, let the virus burn itself out.

obviously, large scale virus transport in the atmosphere across global distances is not possible due to various reasons - UV light destroying viral DNA in upper atmosphere and fragility to heat being some.

Maybe a genetically modified virus could have immunity to UV light...

very hard - DNA maintainance is done by cellular enzymes, which viruses don't have, because they're not cells. DNA itself cannot be chemically changed enough to avoid degradation in radiation due to its thermal instability and need to have enzymes to catalyze repair.

The only possible one here is the alien invasion. With space exploration, humans won't be trapped on one planet and when casinos begin to open up on Mars, it'll matter little what happens to Earth.

We can't create AI until we understand our own mind, and we can't do genetic tampering for a very long time. We'll have accomplished space travel long before that.

Nice analysis...however what makes a meteor strike any different from a nuclear war

Because a Nuclear war probably won't take place in for e.g Arctic regions but would occur in Mainlands. Places like far below in South America which are remote would probably not be effected by a global nuclear war or even some parts of Africa or oceanic islands.. and these places have plenty of human population to survive a nuclear war.... again the only reasonable conclusion we can make is an outer space meteor strike which is very much possible.... other things like Alien invasion etc are just sci-fi nonsense...
