No ulterior motives. Simply curious on opinion of Pakistani forum members.

Would request that only Pakistani members cast a vote.

Also, please do leave your opinion as to why. Thanks.

Edit: For clarity, did Pakistan and China make the right move doing this.

Pakistan asked them to do so.

In that case, did Pakistan do the right thing? Indian Media and Indians are calling it their diplomatic victory and crediting it to their influence in international forums, and to international pressure on Pakistan.

So if you think that Pakistan told them, still feel free to put your answer in poll.
The point is did Pakistan and China made the right move doing this.

China and Pakistan did it together, if Pakistan lifts the restriction, what's the point of China keeping it?

Same thing, point is if Pakistan and China did the right thing.

Pakistan Says Open to Masood Azhar's Listing as Global Terrorist, But Adds Pulwama Condition
Stating that the Pulwama attack was a separate issue, Pakistan said that it had said several times that India was trying to 'suppress' the indigenous uprising in Jammu and Kashmir.

Yes, if the due process of investigation and evidence analysis on the said person/group is made under the UN and proven links to terrorism, the move is right, especially, for Pakistan because no one wants to be associated with terrorists.

By requesting the due UN process and not falling to Indian populism for years, China and Pakistan have emerged as mature and reasonable international actors.

In the end, international politics is a different level game than Modi's domestic politics.

Yes. I felt differant yesterday but that was a uninformed position. Since then I have read a bit on the background and it seems a very sensible decision. To be begin with Masood was already under restrictions within Pakistan. Apparently it was decided to let Masood go but the trick was to 'delete' any referances to Kashmir and terrorism. This was done. The bill was passed after it was amended to remove the referances on terrorism and 'Kashmir' or Pulwama were deleted. Thus India got a watered down bill. Thus from my POV this was a success. The bill was passed but with 'teath' pulled out as far as India is concerned. Note the points below in red -

• China gets listing proposal revised
• FO says previous bids to list Azhar were aimed at maligning Pakistan and legitimate struggle of Kashmiris

A statement issued by the UN from New York headquarters said: “Mohammad Masood Azhar Alvi was listed on 1 May 2019 pursuant to paragraphs 2 and 4 of resolution 2368 (2017) as being associated with Al-Qaida for terrorist activities”.

The declaration came following a major diplomatic compromise between China and the initiators of the listing proposal under which the movers dropped all references to Kashmiri uprising in the India-held valley, Pulwama incident and Pakistani institutions, especially those linking Kashmiri freedom struggle to terrorism.

This was a masterstroke by China. What they did was dumped Masood in the Al-Qaida bin. As I have said before everytbody has their own angle on terrorism. The west are mostly only concerned by Islamists [mostly Arabists] that are threat to west and Israel, fueled often as they are by Palestine/Middle East issues which since 9/11 is branded as 'Islamic terror' by western media. The Chinese are only concerned by Uighurs.

India has been desperately trying to lump the Kashmir struggle with Palestine, Al-Qaida and other Arabists causes so as to paint them as "Islamic terror" and thereby get western/Israeli support and validation. In doing so Pakistan would be made to look as another evil state like Iran and Kashmir cause bracketed as part of the wider Islamic terror stretching from Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and the various Islamic terrorist group in Europe or even the recent Sri Lankan attack. That is make Kashmir struggle part of wider Islamic jihad. In fact Indian was peddling the same aggenda as our own PDF ummah types who look at a global Islamic ummah and see Rohingya, Uighurs, Palestinians, Kashmiri's etc as just one Muslim ummah being oppressed.

However China and Pakistan have followed the more politics of secular geo-politics by dumping Masood on Al-Qaida and separating Kashmir cause from rest of the jihadi groups. What China/Pakistan are saying is all the groups that threaten west, Europe, Israel, China are terrorists but the ones fighting in Kashmir are legitimate freedom fghters. To my mind this was nothing short then a tactical genius move.

By de-hyphenating Masood from Kashmir and lumping him with Al-Qaida it took the wind out of the Indian sail and satisfied the western countries. It divided the threat faced by India from threat faced by west. Islamic groups that threaten israel, West will go onto be sanctioned but Kashmiri freedom struggle will continue on a separate track.

After removal of Kashmir there was nothing that was holding Pakistan back. Infact Pakistan played a masterstroke proving the world that Pakistan was always sincere in fighting terrorism. May help in FATF too.

Pakistani diplomats will have an easier job now. Hope they take advantage of this.

As far as what I heard there was a mention of the sacrifices made by Pakistan in the resolution.

The fact that Masood was a Pakistani will remain. We have one more global terrorist produced by 'Pakistan'. Remember it's a strategic goal for India which is toward Pakistan as a state not a tactical goal of just Masood Azhar. India's push won't stop... Ever. By hook or by crook Pakistan will keep getting designated with these terror gems. You may be happy to get him relinked from Kashmir but as I said one more terror legend from Pakistan is now on the UN global terrorist list that's a bigger picture India is looking at not some brownie points cuz Kashmir will remain non issue for the world in our lifetimes. So yeah be happy in your loss. Eventually you can save your face by having China beside you but truth is both Pakistan and it's higher than mountain friend have been forced to give in. Enjoy

more terror legend
Honestly, I live in the west. Western media does not giving a flying fcuk about Masoods, Burhan Wani's, Adil Dars or Kashmir freedom fighters anymore then they do with Maoist rebels wasting Indian security forces in the jungles of Ganga. Neither do they care about Baloch terrorists. This is harsh reality.

What they do care about is those groups that hurt the West or Israel. Primarily Palestinians, Arab Middle Eastern groups or other groups that draw their insipration from the wider Middle East Arabist causes bracketed as "Islamic terror" and that have been branded as such particularly post 9/11. So the holy commandment of any sensible freedom struggle is never, I mean never engage in any activity or appear to link with any such Middle East inspired Arabists groups because that will fire up the Judo-Western order against you. This is as good as castrating your own cause. With this in mind a good example of this is the Kurds ~ who despite being in a incredibly difficult position facing a NATO country [Turkey] on one hand and US installed Iraq on the other have been remarkably succesful in peddling their cause. Most Western media is sympathetc to Kurds despte them being behind many terrorist groups, much to the consteernation of Turks. They have been successful with their narrative because they know the Judo-Western order dominates the globe and you will not get very far if you annoy it or worse threaten it. Thus Kurds have fastidously avoided any Middle Eastern Arabist causes often branded as 'Islami terror' in the west. Kurds have behind the scenes worked with the Israeli's even and they have been rewarded with a semi-independant Kurdistan right under the noses of Turks. Not a small achievement by any means.

On the contrary in Pakistan there has been concerted effort made for the last three decades of tie the Kashmiri wagon to the Arabist Middle Eastern causes that threaten the Judo-Westeern order and by doing so make the west concerned. A good example was the Mumbai event. By picking on Jewish-Western targets it ensured that even would draw gobal outcry and support for India. The Indian's have of course gone out of their way to cry to the judo-West "me and you are victims" from the same 'Islamic terror' threat. Once this narrative took hold which was natural manifestation of the ummah dream it brought Judo-West into Kashmir on Indian side as of course leading to the pressure at UN where the West began supporting the Indian narrative.

Frankly the only thing left now for Pakistan to draw the final nail into the Kashmiri cause and bury it dead is if we allow our ummah chummah their final goal. To get Uighurs cause also be adopted by Pakistan and I have seen many PDF'ers push for this. This would of course bring China also on the side of Judo-West, India and about kill Kashmir cause.

Pakistan must not let that happen. It must remain silent on Uighurs and began to undo the damage by un-coupling or detaching the Kashmir cause from the Middle Eastern based 'Islamic terror' groups that threaten Israel or the West. If we can do that then the Judo-West will again ignore Indian crying.

And this move by Pakistan and China was a tactical move in that direction. Masood's links with Al-Qaida [read Islamic terror] were qualified but his connecting to Kashmir cause were deleted. Pakistan must move Kashmir cause away from all Islamic terror groups that threaten Israel or the West or support Uighurs threatening China. That is the only way forward. And I am glad we are moving in that direction.
