The two capitals plus some big cities like Alchevsk, Makiivka, Gorlovka, Stakhanov? I think no because Ukraine signed Minsk 2 and therefore any offensive would mean breaking Minsk 2 and even if Ukraine drives rebels out and secures the cities Russia would militarily intervene to drive Ukrainians back out and put rebels back in like what the US did with Kuwait in 1991 after Iraq invaded and annexed Kuwait. What do you think?

Regain...right.More and more areas will go away from Kiev - it is matter of time.And I`m not talking about South-East of the country.Plus certain countries have quite interesting plans for Ukraine.As Lavrov have said it not long ago-there is USA&Poland plan for dividing(understand stealing Lvov and other 2 areas) of Ukraine.Plus people of Carpathian area also will want to get out of asylum called Ukraine.Only way for surviving is fully reforming and creating loose confederation otherwise Ukraine is done in its current artificial borders.

So how do Ukraine reclaim something that's still theirs?

They are like Kosovo. They do not pay taxes to Ukraine and contribute nothing to Ukraine's economy. They kill and cripple Ukrainian soldiers and civilians. Even if de jure they are part of Ukraine, they do Ukraine no good, only damage.

If you recall, Kosovo was an autonomous region of Serbia which formally declared independence from Serbia in 2008 after Serbia pulled all troops out of Kosovo.

Putin is timid so he has not recognized New Russia. However, the next Russian president will be a hardliner. Heck, Putin is the softest Russian politician out there. So come 2018 when Russia gets a new president, Russia would recognize New Russia like how Medvedev recognized South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

Ukraine lost over 5 million people post Maidan, including thousands of soldiers dead, over 2 million converted to Russians in Crimea, over 3 million in NAF controlled Donbas, more than half of coal mines lost to NAF controlled Donbas.

If I were a Ukrainian, I would see what Maidan has done to Ukraine. This compared to the Orange Revolution where 1 guy died of heart attack.
