Artefacts smuggling bid foiled in Karachi
KARACHI: Police foiled an attempt to smuggle over fifty ancient artefacts and statues and arrested two individuals. On information received from intelligence agencies, police conducted a raid and seized the artefacts.
Those arrested informed the police that the owner of the artefacts was a person called Atif ****.
According to DSP Awami Colony Majeed Abbas, the value of the artefacts was being ascertained.
It is estimated that the 2,000 year old artefacts which were from the Gandhara civilization could be sold in the international market for millions. They are obtained by illegal digging and smuggled out of the country via Karachi.
Meanwhile the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government wants the artefacts to be given to them so they can exhibit them in a museum.
