The suspicion of the LTTE link came in the backdrop of the day coinciding with the fifth death anniversary of K Muthukumaran, the first person to commit self immolation protesting the alleged genocide of Lankan Tamils. Narayanasamy is known to have come out strongly against the LTTE and its activities.
According to sources, the planting of the bomb is also suspected to be an attempt to send a word of caution to the Union Minister, who was out of station, and the Congress party by creating a major scare.
The bomb, which used a GI pipe is believed to be brought from outside the Union Territory, sources said.
Bomb experts found that commercial explosive ‘GelX’, 21 electrical detonators and 11 non-electrical detonators were used in the device.
It was a powerful enough to damage the Union Minster’s house as well as the surrounding buildings, according to the sources here.
Sources said such devices are normally used by Maoists and this is the first time, such a device was detected in Puducherry.
Reacting to the detection, Narayanasamy said people in the Union Territory were forced to live in fear as a result of the activities of the anti-social elements and Wednesday’s incident has confirmed what he had been saying all along on law and order situation prevailing in the UT.
He asked the government to book the culprits involved in planting the bomb under his son’s car.
