the other one is a paintball gun which I don't know too much about

on bottom is PK-10, derivative of the much famed Avtomat Kalashnikova - model of 1947 :):)

Forgive my ignorance but what are paintball guns used for?

Its actually designed for training purposes, but with the right OC rounds can be used as a Less than Lethal Weapon alternative:

PepperBall - Non-Lethal Defense System

• Rounds are filled with PAVA (Capsaicin II) OC powder.
• Contains the active irritant Oleoresin Capsicum.
• Offers equivalent heat levels to current law enforcement OC products.
• The powdered OC creates a cloud that envelops the suspect.
• Requires less decontamination time than liquid OC.
• Used to gain submission and compliance.
• Launchers fire projectiles at a muzzle velocity of 350 to 380 fps.
• Fired projectiles are accurate on targets at distances of 30’.
• Can be used for area saturation at distances of 100'.
• Operating temperature range of -30 to 150 F.
• Red/live rounds have a shelf life of three years.
• Should never be targeted at a person's face, eyes, throat or spine.
• Red

Optimal effective range is 30'ft... This can be increased with a larger Co2 canister, but that would not be practical for what purpose it serves.
