What's new

POF BW-20 Battle Rifle (7.62x51mm) & POF BW-21 Carbine

This is purely disappointing from POF
That's just a normal G3 with an extended mag well & a muzzle break with pic rail
Nothing innovative on part of POF

Wonder where they went with PK18
That was somewhat a promising design

I noticed in this picture the guy is holding the end of the rifle with his left hand, i suppose that is to control recoil as well as to hold it steady. Why does it not come with a handle as standard?

Google tells me the front handle is called a foregrip.
it feels more like a c-grip to stabilize the firearm for recoil and also while moving. everything you add will add some weight.

Holding rifle in this fashion is called C clamp grip. Some SF guys prefer gripping rifle like this for better recoil management and muzzle control.

Any kind of physical grip installed as an accessory there is called a foregrip. Yes you can install foregrip there or mount an under barrel rail system and slap on a foregrip on it. But I think they intentionally didn't install any foregrip for testing and marketing purposes.

Handle (Foregrip) doesn't come standard with it because you can't standardize a non standard issue rifle. It's a prototype rifle being tested by POF. PAK Army hasn't inducted it yet and it's not that much simple straightforward process either.

New BW20 Roller-Delayed Battle Rifle from Pakistan Ordnance Factories

If we take an honest look at firearms these days, it is easy to see that now, in 21 century, there is significantly less diversity in weapon design compared to 50s or 60s. Everything we see now are gas-operated rifles based on AR-15, AR-18 and AK. But another major action type, roller-delayed blowback, used in G3, MP5 and other H&K rifles, seems to have faded into obscurity. Until now. Meet BW20, the new battle rifle designed by Pakistan Ordnance Factories.
Pakistan Ordnance Factories @ TFB:
Back in the day, H&K built several factories for license production of G3 and MP5 – in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Greece, Iran, Portugal, Sweden, Colombia, and Pakistan. Some of those factories closed down, some are still making G3s and planning a total overhaul of production facilities to start license manufacturing of new designs. But in Pakistan, they went one step further. After testing the most modern and advanced battle rifles (SCAR-H, Beretta ARX 200, BREN 2 from CZ), POF engineers evaluated the results and decided to give a try to designing a modern battle rifle based on a G3 roller-delayed blowback action.

BW20 stands for “Battle Weapon, designed in 2020”. While originally engineers considered the name “battle rifle” (BR20), the abbreviation BR is already widely used in Pakistan Army, so the factory went with BW designation instead.
In the video, the rifle is tested by POF engineer Salman Ali, who initiated the development of BW20 and is the primary designer of the project. Apart from being an experienced weapons design engineer, Salman is an accomplished precision shooter which helped him to refine some components of the new rifle.
While BW20 uses roller-delayed blowback, it is not just an upgrade of the G3. At the moment, BW20 shares about 30% of spare parts with G3 in order to decrease production costs and necessary investments. From the ground up, the rifle was designed to be produced on machinery used for G3 manufacturing to use existing infrastructure. The entire rifle consists of 125 parts, while the original G3 has about 200 parts.

The version presented in the pictures is a pre-production prototype, the final version should have a bolt hold open mechanism as well as an ambidextrous magazine release and selector. The prototype has a lower receiver machined from aluminum, the production version is designed to have a polymer lower receiver.
BW20 feeds from AR10 magazines and has a proprietary trigger mechanism based on AR-15. The stock is also based on an AR15 but has a massive cheek riser. The production version will be compatible with various AR-15 stocks.
The charging handle is on the left side, an armorer can move it to the right side if necessary. The standard version of the rifle has a 16-inch barrel, carbine version features a 12-inch barrel.

Versions of this rifle in 5.56 and 7.62×39 are being developed at the moment. The 5.56 rifle will use a standard AR15 magazine, while the 7.62×39 version will be compatible with AK magazines.
POF (Pakistan Ordnance Factories) is developing this rifle both for the country’s military and international market. There are plans to develop both a designated marksman version and a semi-automatic rifle that would be available on the commercial market.
At the moment, POF-made MP5s are available on the US market, and so far it looks like nothing should stop potential civilian versions of BW20 from coming to the USA unless ATF hates the roller delay gang.
They should name it some sort of indigenous name like "Talwaar", "Shamsheer" etc.

Like Israeli Tavor VS POF Talwaar (or POF Teer Kumaan)

Or they may name it "Khudkaar Hamla-aavr Bandook 1", means Automatic Assault Rifle 1. AAR-1 in English.

It's ammo should be called "santri shikan" (soldier killer) which would be able to penetrate enemy's body armor. Just like our Anti tank guided missile Baktar Shikan

Similarly if in future PAC manages to create its own Air to Air WVR or BVR missile it should name as:

PAC Tez Patti Karhak Maza Air to Air missile. Or Instant Tea Dispatcher in English.

It's time that we should start creating our own brands and nomenclature. No nation in the world reach to its glory by even copying other's culture, literature etc

BRUH!

I think the name should be simple and catchy like G3.

It feels too generic. doesn't add any unique character. Turkish military products don't have that much catchy names especially their APCs or IFVs etc. But still they are the most rapidly growing arms industry. Their light attack and trainer jet also has unique and difficult name.

When you would market something like Tez patti Karhak maza or the instant tea dispatcher missile in english. It would be funny and unique and would humiliate, demoralizeour enemy simultaneously.

And during the stressful times of war when our military support personnel will call o bhai tez patti laa mission k liy jet ready krna hai. Or SSG guy would say meri talwaar pkrha mission pe chalna hai. That's how they would cheer up even in real stress inducing moments

Even Germans didn't copy rest of the world. Called their tanks Panzerkamfwagun, Anti tank rockets panzerfaust, their smg Machinenpistolen40 mp40 etc. Every nation should name their equipment uniquely.

It depicts that we Pakistanis feel inferior when we use our our local language! That's pathetic. When our fashion sensitive women don't hesitate to wear Khaadi or Maria B etc. Why we feel ashamed to call our in house built equipment whatever we want to. That's called cultural and mental slavery.

I can't type Urdu in our own font style. But I hope that our upcoming generations may be accustomed to type Urdu in its oringinal font and style on mobile devices with ease.
