any update on this project?
Actually post-covid, it would be an ideal time for Pakistan to buy some aircraft from US airliners that have grounded large number of aircraft or wont be able to take the orders they placed with Boeing due to little air traffic.
no chance, we will most probably buy Saab system.Despite the loss of an A320 in the recent PIA crash, going for a A320neo based MPA/SIGINT - ELINT (finding a way to put both features on an extended airframe variant should be studied)
If equipped with the best GaN based AESA out of Europe, the best ELINT equipment, and the best EW equipment it could get in close to enemy positions together badly needed intel in a time of heightened hostilities.
Acquiring well maintained planes being retired early from airlines due to the coronavirus maybe a good way to keep costs down. If we can get enough air frames at a good price, we could use them as tankers if that is part of the future air doctrine, or at the very least retire or replace some of our oldest PIA planes to improve safety.

IMHO ... the PN will likely end-up using the Global 6000, and in turn, design a LRMPA similar to the Saab Swordfish. Basically, limited mods to the airframe, likely external hardpoints for anti-ship missiles and lightweight torpedoes. I doubt they'll go as deep as Airbus' A320neo concept (like creating an internal bay, etc), not alone anyways.I originally backed the idea of the Saab jet as well, but there was a line in the requirement that the platform should be one that is widely used in civil aviation. The most common civil airliner with the kind of range to monitor our entire EEZ And loiter is an A-320. The Global 6000 could also do the job, but with airlines retiring planes, an A-320neo could probably be purchased for a similar price as a Saab option. Also, a larger size may help build a multi-role option mpa and Sigint. It all depends on what the PAF wants. We don’t know for sure it’s a requirement for an mpa. It could be an ew platform, in which case the Turkish Havasoj and the platform that is integrated on is the best option available to us.

Reliability issues and untestedMitsubishi MRJ??
Sukhoi SSJ???

MRJ only has test aircrafts but didn't enter service yet
Yep. I think because the PN must do this alone without more experienced partners, it has to be conservative. I think the Saab Swordfish is the most reachable model: 90% COTS. Saab only owned the weapons (AShM + LWT), but the radar, EO/IR, ESM, etc were all from other sources. Even so, weapons integration and testing won't be easy.what if they could acquire the air frame for a similar price as a Global 6000? Considering the size difference and the A-320Neo could also operate as a Sigint aircraft if the required antenna could be found to fit on the air frame and operator stations programmed to do both ASW and SIGINT. But I agree with your point, the Global 6000 is the right minimum size class to function as a LRMPA to cover our entire EEZ. Perhaps with the lack of a bay, it will leave room for a SIGINT suite just aft of the wings and wheel wells, it the outer wing pylons could house SIGINT pods.
