Recent news regarding diversion of cobra and P-3 upgradtion funds allocated for F-16 purchase suggests that PN may be dropping P-3 deal? interestingly the PN is using its US funds "must buy american weapons" for 6 OHP frigates.
leaving a possibility that PN is more interested in inducting latest MPA/ASW/ASuW and inclined to replace aging fokker and atlantique fleet with perhaps ATR-72? And use its current P-3 fleet to its potential service without major upgrades saving money for possible next generation MPA like A-319MPA....

nope... PN has been operating p-3 for more then 2 decades now..

Nopz we received upgraded version i think P-3C MPA in 2007 and future upgrades includes hawkeye 2000 system.

nope.. we are suppose to receive P-3C upgrade 2.5 and 3 kits for current and ordered fleet plus 3 Hawkeye 2000 radar mounted on P-3C for AEW role. all this will cost about a billion dollars..

one atlantic is currently operational along with 2 P3C from the original order of 3 (recently upgraded) and 2 P3Cs from the order of 8 Ex-USN EDA stocks are operational. these 4 a/c will be sent back to the US (Martin Marietta plant) for the upgrades "Growler" is talking about.

further it is expected that at-least 1 P3C with the Hawkeye 2000 system will be delivered in 2010.

Fokker F-27s will continue to service the PN for some time to come as all ex-PIA F-27s were sold to the PN for "spares".

but sir do you think its worth spending a billion dollars on just upgrades which is going to serve no more then 1.5 or max 2 decades? where as if we take the option of replacing our aging medium MPA fleet with new generation systems like ATR-72 will serve us much longer... PN has to catch the "uptodate" pace.
