Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz has made its most aggressive push to clamp down on all kinds of media (print, visual, social) by preparing a Cyber Crimes Bill 2015 which will criminalize any criticism of politicians or their policies and also criminalize political analysis (goodbye night time political talk shows).

What a shameful government this is. PPP government was really incompetent, corrupt and horrible but they never made any attempt to restrict freedom of speech, expression, etc.

It is well known by now that PMLN has little tolerance for criticism.

Well this rules apply for all politician and political parties Not only on PML-N.....

But it is the PMLN pushing the bill through. Freedom of Speech and Expression and Assembly is too much for PMLN to handle. I guess it makes sense since Nawaz Sharif learned his politics from dictator Zia ul-Haq - so how will he and his patwaris understand the beauty of freedom of speech, expression and assembly..?!?!?

Intolerant products of past dictators are today's dictators in civilian clothing pretending to be 'democratic politicians'.

It is an attempt by PMLN to silence all questioning of its corruption, its misguided policies, everything. They find it hard to be accountable to the very people they are ruling over. Transparency and accountability is like salt in their wounds.

Well true that the bill should be against those who are spreading hate speech against religion or sect

Yeah, PMLN don't have guts to move against those folks. The real hate speech spreaders and the mosques whose loudspeakers stoke hatred, or the madrassa curriculum, or Lal Masjid are all going on non-stop. They want to use this Cyber Crimes Bill 2015 to silence social media because they cannot hide their corruption, scandals, etc which are exposed on a daily basis online.

A sign on a shop in Punjab, so shameful

corruption scandals on social media on daily basis??? after 2 years now they have 730 corruption scandals?

you said PML-N want to use this Cyber Crimes Bill 2015 to silence social media because they cannot hide their corruption, scandals, etc which are exposed on a daily basis online. so i replied it's been 2 years that they are gov so now they have 730 corruption scandals i just 2 which are yet no proofs like 12 Billion from Metro and 42 billion from Railway

My point is, the attempt at silencing criticism and moving towards censorship. A government that has nothing to hide will never introduce such a draconian bill in the guise of 'cyber security' when the real motive is to silence social media. Already they do not have any intention to unblock YouTube, now goodluck to Pakistani awaam when Facebook goes and your twitter is monitored, etc.

If they want the bill for this purpose they should have done it when Imran Khan was in D Chock then Internet was full of GO Nawaz GO etc etc and much criticism was done in those days

They had their hands full at that time and PMLN needed media itself at the time to run anti-PTI advertisements in print media and also on TV channels.

PTI-PAT sit-ins: Govt ploughed Rs450m into media blitz - The Express Tribune

Now judicial commission has been formed, PTI has eased pressure on them, so now PMLN start to spread its wings and clamp down on media freedoms while everyone is distracted with Yemen debate. Hopefully people will stand up in opposition to this nonsense bill. PTI already is against it.

It will be challenged in Supreme Court, just like it happened in India and PMLN will be embarassed when its struck down like it was in India.

If PML-N was Advertising then PTI was Also Advertising their party slogans and against Gov ads what about?? PTI eased the Pressure? :D they didn't felt any pressure in 126 days and how they are eased come on.. No One is Busy in Yemen debate but busy in NA-246 Seat Karachi

PTI was NOT using TAX PAYER money. Big difference. But I guess its difficult for me to explain simple definitions to a patwari. If PMLN did not feel pressure from 126 day dharna, Ishaq Dar would not have said in his press conference that he will do whatever is needed to bring PTI back to parliament. Your selective memory is either a result of short-term memory loss, memory lapses or just a patwari-fed diet of gibberish.

Yemen debate is over; parliament passed resolution to stay neutral which is what PTI wanted even though PMLN found it very difficult to digest. Still Nawaz Sharif tried to please his Saudi masters after the resolution was passed and the Saudis and Emirates leaders expressed disappointment by giving a speech later and sending a high-powered delegation to GCC so they can do boot-polish to Arabs. Let's not forget Nawaz Sharif owes his life to Saudi Arabia for giving him protection all those years after his deal with Musharraf. Ofcourse a good dog must fulfill the wishes of his master.

NA-246 has nothing to do with Yemen debate or PMLN. If you cannot post a comment here from a position of knowledge, Islam teaches that people should bite their tongue and remain silent than to spread misinformation.
