PML-Q rejects Pakhtunkhwa as NWFP’s new name

Pakistan Muslim League-Q has rejected Pakhtunkhwa, Afghania or Pakhtunistan as a new name for NWFP province and President PML-Q Chaudhry Shujaat has formed a committee under Amir Muqam for holding consultations on the issue.

A consultative meeting of PML-Q was held here to deliberate over the issue of renaming of NWFP.

Briefing media persons after the meeting, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said the constitutional package must not be delayed on the issue of NWFP’s name. “The constitutional package has been hijacked by linking it with the renaming of NWFP,” he added.

General Secretary PML-Q Mushahid Hussain Sayed, on the occasion, termed it necessary to hold consultations with all the provinces on the issue of NWFP’s name.

‘ANP ready to accept two new names for NWFP’

PESHAWAR: The deadlock between Awami National Party (ANP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) seems to be resolved on the new name of NWFP as ANP has shown its willingness to accept the two new names Pukhtunkhwa Abasin and Pukhtunkhwa Khyber other than Pukhtunkhwa in place North West Frontier Province, NWFP Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain has stated in official handout released on Monday.

He said that all the parties other than PML-N in the Constitutional Reforms Committee have no objection on the new proposed name of North West Frontier Province as ANP has proposed “Pukhtunkhwa” as the new name of NWFP.

He said that PML-N sent its delegation to ANP leader Asfandyar Wali after the deadlock over the issue. Asfandyar Wali agreed to PML-N of Pukhtunkhwa Abasin or Pukhtunkhwa Khyber as the new name of NWFP.

He said that ANP would not accept any other name these two parties. He said that the issue of the new name would be resolved in the coming few days.

He said that ANP would not support the constitutional package until the issue of the new name of NWFP is being resolved.

Saad Rafiq, PML-N leader said while talking to SAMAA that the issue of the new name for NWFP would be finalized soon. The party is holding discussions on the issue and soon there would be breakthough on the issue.

Khyber is perfect , but ANP will never admit it because they are not interested in giving NWFP name they just want to Create division on the bases of race , i am personally against any kind of local identity , till we had one unit system we are doing just fine.

I haven't been keeping track of the ANP's progress but what have they done for their province?? is changing name is what matters to them most? seriously its just a 'non issue'!!!!

personally i think Khyber or Paktunkhawa khyber is better!!

This is wrong man. The Pashtuns have controlled that area for over 100 years and still they have no right to rename their province. The Pashtuns have never objected to the province of Punjabis being named the Punjab or the province of Sindhis being named as Sindh. What are we called, NWFPian's? And whats going on with Nawaz? Like seriously? All of this renaming thing was going on very well, until he got a kick in the butt and woke up.

none of the other provinces brought up this issue of changing name, so it will be only the people of 'Pakhtunkhawa khyber' who are supposed to face this question... Pashtun have controlled and might be in majority as well but when you are making a decision based on laguages or cast then others have a say as well... dont they?

although punjabis and sindhi were named after five rivers and indus respectively but i still agree with you. people of NWFP have every right to choose a name of their choice.

I too think it should be named Afghania as this is what it was meant to be , this is how it was concieved to be.
