Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Imran Khan exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, including bilateral relations and developments in the region, in a telephone call on Friday.

In his call to Prime Minister Imran Khan, President Tayyip Erdogan extended sympathies and condolences over the loss of precious lives in recent terrorist incident in Pakistan.

The two leaders reviewed progress made in a number of important areas of bilateral cooperation, particularly since Prime Minister's visit to Turkey in January this year.

They also noted that bilateral collaboration in diverse fields would be further strengthened during the next meeting of Pakistan-Turkey High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council to be held in Islamabad later this year.

In the regional context, Prime Minister Imran Khan apprised President Erdogan of Pakistan's steadfast support to international efforts for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.

Situation in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir was also highlighted by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Buy why?? We have good relations, defence deals, ppl love each other... Why not then? Is it erdogan not wanting this?? We should raise issue with turkish opposition as well and on media.

Pakistan has good relations with secular turkey as well. Erdogan is losing popularity n next President might be frm CHP.

It is not a political decision. Look let me explain it to you' Turkish textile Industry is strong. Thanks to that we are Independent about textile... If we let this free trade agreement to happen, it will hurt or even kill our own textile Industry. Because we cant compete with Pakistan about price.
Think it like that' today Pakistan produce Azmat class patrol boats, would you like to buy Turkish patrol boats instead of your own? No. Because it will kill your own Industry.

So dont expect any free trade agreement, you cant expect us to hurt or even kill our own Industry so you can earn some money, after all.
Note' we might sign a limited trade agreement of course, but a ''Real free trade agreement'' is not possible.

Ahh so thats the reason u think?

Ur thinking one way only, thats not how economy works. There will be things cheaper in turkey that we currently import from abroad, turkey local industry will have open access to a 200 million plus market. There a lot of brands that turkey can compete in terms of quality and beat in terms of price coz of FTA. If prices are lower in Pakistan, turkey will have access to cheaper raw materials as well.

I think it has some political aspects...

The price you pay for cheaper imported things is loss of your industry thus loss of employment, forex draining out, etc. etc.

Nope... There might be some positive results as well but generally it will hurt or even kill our textile Industry so we cant risk it. Btw, there is no political problem. We are talking about Pakistan-Turkey afterall, all political party's in Turkey support Pakistan in everyway, but like I said we wont kill our own Industry so you can earn some money. You guys should just respect it.

Yes a full out free trade agreement is very unlikely and frankly not beneficial to either party at this moment. Limited free trade is the way to go i.e. free trade in industries where neither side will grow at the cost of the other.
