What's new

PM to inaugurate 2 660MW coal power plants tomorrow

PML N has no other option but to solve power crisis if it wants to remain in power.
huge foreign loans of over 25 billion dollars have already been secured from world bank(12 bilion$ mostly energy),asian bank(2 billion @ again energy only),IDF,Islamic development bank and chinese nuclear firm(6 billion$).
this in additon to 4 years return rate grantee will attract another 10 billion dollars in coal area(importd coal)

Government needs to fix Pakistan's energy problem.

Pakistani houses, industries, services, businesses, and every city etc. should get electricity as much as they need.

Good to see that something is under process. Hopefully Pakistani coal would be able to run it.

P.s. Dont know why people keep saying that for nawaz shareef survival, energy sector has to be developed within his period?
Lets face the bitter reality and see the condition of all capable parties:
Plm-n will be the only best contender.
Pti cannot outrun plm-n in interior punjab and mqm/ppp in interior sindh, period.
Ppp if comes into power , every project, development will be stopped till next term.
Mqm karachi based only and now afaq group in rise.
So, ly dy kar ik hi option ha :-(
P.s. TUQ may 11 :p

According to officials of ministry of water and power, the MoU of this project was signed among M/s Qinvest Company, Doha, Qatar, M/s Power Construction Corporation of China (Power China), M/s SEPCO-III Electric Power Construction Corporation, government of Punjab, and Private Power & Infrastructure Board (PPIB) on 29th August 2013. According to the MoU, the companies will also build eight 660MW plants in phase-II at Gadani, Balochistan.

I already smell corruption here. Some % from the Chinese and what is Punjab government doing in Port Qasim?

Is it another pup company of Nawaz pimp?

Were you sleeping when 18th. amendment to the constitution was passed? Do you not know that provinces can do what the heck they want for power generation? Punjab Government is also a partner of Balochistan Government in power projects to be set up in Gadani. Are you going to have a problem with that too?

You smell corruption everywhere, because that is where your mind goes by default.

Chinese refused to have anything to do with Zardari-led PPP government, precisely because of x% demands. Why would they then turn-around and offer % for anyone else. This did not need to be said. But I am having to state the obvious for those who think from other people's brains.

It will be functional in next PTI government

No chance of finish in next 7 years

How so?

Why Punjab government?

What else can they offer other than the corrupt money?

Corps Commander real estate guru is in the deal too?

The reports and news articles we come across claim that, in most cities and towns in Pakistan, there is load-shedding for 14-16 hours every day. This is not only unfortunate for the sake of living conditions but also a huge cause for concern. Reading reports about the inauguration of 2 power plants at port Qasim are indeed encouraging. In addition, USAID is also funding projects in Pakistan, such as the “smart meters”, which would allow for more efficient and cost-effective electricity distribution to millions of people, renovation of the Tarbela Dam in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Jamshoro Thermal Power Plant in Sindh, and the Muzaffargharh Thermal Power Plant in Punjab as well as construction of the Satpara Dam in Gilgit-Baltistan which resulted in adding 1,000 megawatts to the power grid which has supplied enough power to more than 16 million people. In addition, it is planned that 200 megawatts will be added to that sometime this year. .

Hopefully, with the help of its allies and various independent projects, the Pakistani establishment would be able to effectively tackle the issue of load-shedding in the near future.

KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday that his government was committed to address the issue of power shortage and would encourage local and foreign investment in the energy sector.

He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Port Qasim Thermal Power Plant here.

Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali, Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong, Qatar Ambassador Sayar Abdul Rehman Al-Mawadah, Chairman Power China Fan Jixiang, Chairman Al Mirqab Sheikh Jasim, Minister for Ports and Shipping Kamran Micheal and Information Minister Senator Pervaiz Rashid were also present at the ceremony.

“We will eliminate darkness from this country,” the prime minister said.

He said his government did not waste a single day during the last eleven months and the current 660 MW project, which was the first phase of 1,320 MW power project, reflected it’s commitment to address the energy issue.

The premier said he had no doubt in his mind from the very first day of his government that realising the dream of socio- economic development was impossible without addressing the issue of energy.

“The severity of this crisis required day and night work on power projects, so that we could replace the darkness with lights,” he remarked.

PM Sharif said the ground-breaking of this power project at Port Qasim had a special significance due to importance of Karachi in Pakistan's economy.

He said the government would rise the power generation up to 21,000 MW.

The prime minister said since the production of electricity from the coal fired power plants was cheaper, ten coal-fired power projects, with a capacity of 660 MW each, were being initiated at Gadani in Balochistan, which would add a total of 6,600 MW in the national grid.

He said 3,500 MW electricity would be generated from Diamer Bhasha Dam in Gilgit-Baltistan, adding that 950 MW of electricity would be available from the Neelum Jhelum power project by next year.

The premier also referred to other power projects such as a 1,320 MW project at Jamshoro as well as the planned power projects at Rahim Yar Khan, Muzaffargarh, Sahiwal and Jhang.

“It is our desire that we should have not only ample power at our disposal but also a cost-effective one so that a large populace can get relief,” he said referring to coal-fired power plants.

Sharif said it was a matter of immense pleasure for him that Chinese Power China Company and Qatar's Al Mirqab Capital had collaborated to initiate this project.

“These energy projects are result of our successful foreign policy, which also shows the consistency perseverance in the Pak-China relationship,” he said.

“These are early harvest projects and will bear fruit in short time. Pak-China friendship will play a crucial role in stabilising the economy of Pakistan as well as bringing peace and prosperity in the region,” he added.

Here is the Sad Truth, and it will hurt like salt on burnole less burn mark.

Mr Nawaz Sahrif our honorable Leader, promised the Nation he will fix energy crisis in 6 Months, after the elections he stated well, ok I never promised that.

Mr Nawaz Sharif our honorable fearless leader stated he will never beg for Loan because his dignity and self respect does not allows for it, however later he stated there is no "Shame" in taking loans. Furthermore , when the Rupee value went downhill , he opted for gift from Friends. I am not saying gifts are bad and no Loans are not bad either. But he promised the countrymen
Solution to energy crisis. Never Happened.

He also promissed "BULL-LUT" train, later he stated well ok we can may be get another metro bus system may be in Islamabad.

Now he says he can give us DAMs in 3-4 years , if you were a wise betting men who wore a Tuxedo and smoked a pipe
would you really expect , a DAM in 3-4 years of 13 years ?

Senseless sentence - output of a confused mind. What do you mean by this cynical gibberish?

Again, another idiotic statement. If you want to make a point. Do so logically, coherently, and with facts. If you can not manage to do that, get an education - and while you do so, stop wasting other people's time with rubbish.

Port Qasim plants would probably run on imported power/stream grade coal.

China is the largest producer of coal in the world producing in excess of 3.5- billions per year and also largest consumer of coal at about 4-billion tons per year. Major coal exporters in this region are Australia & Indonesia, both exporting more than 300-million tons per annum. India, South Korea Japan & China are among the biggest importers of steam coal.

From a high of about $130 per metric ton in 2011, coal prices have dropped considerably. Last month 6000 Kcal/Kg power coal was rated at about $85 per metric ton CIF South China and 5,500 Kcal/Kg at about $80 CIF East India This is primarily because of the additional investment required in coal powered plants for environmental considerations.
